Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit |
Biomedical engineering (BME) is a fast-growing, interdisciplinary field that integrates engineering, mathematics, medicine, and science to improve human health and quality of life. BME graduates are job-ready engineers for the medical device, health care, biotechnology, and pharmaceutical industries. The Joint Department spans two world-class public universities, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and North Carolina State University. The mission of the Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering is to unite engineering and medicine to improve lives. With more than 50 primary teaching and research faculty members and approximately 600 undergraduate, Master’s, and doctoral students, the Joint Department is on track to realize its ambitious vision of becoming a leader in real-world results: faculty productivity, student accomplishment, and entrepreneurial success. BME students have access to the vast resources of two world-class public universities, which includes greater opportunities for collaboration with faculty, clinicians, and students in top-ranked schools of pharmacy, dentistry, nursing, veterinary medicine, textiles, and other engineering fields. |
Position Summary |
This position’s main purpose is to serve as the UNC (University of North Carolina) Student Services Coordinator of the Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering. The Student Services Coordinator serves as the first point of contact for students enrolled in and seeking information about the Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering. The Students Services Coordinator organizes student events, leads student recruitment activities, and provides academic advice to students. The position also maintains student applications to the undergraduate and MS programs, collects and reports student data, facilitates student communication, coordinates student access, and manages course scheduling. The coordinator works with staff, faculty, and students in the UNC-CH division of the department to coordinate endeavors between the two campuses. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. |
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
– Demonstrated ability to organize and handle multiple tasks at one time. – Demonstrated experience in an analyst role with assimilation and assessment of data. – Excellent communications skills, with people at a range of levels, through formal and informal written and verbal styles. – Patience and tactfulness to work with a range of students, faculty, and staff. – Experience with spreadsheets and databases. – Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office, especially advanced Excel, and Microsoft Project. |

Campus Security Authority Responsibilities |
This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities. |
