Audio Reader Program
Position Overview
The Audio-Reader Network is a reading and
information service for blind, visually impaired, and print disabled individuals in Kansas and western Missouri. We read daily newspapers,
magazines and best-selling books on the air and on the internet, 24 hours a day, and we offer on demand newspaper readings by telephone.
Services are free of charge to anyone in our listening area who is unable to read standard printed material.
This position serves as
the front desk administrative associate and receptionist for two organizations: Audio-Reader (A-R) and Kansas Public Radio (KPR). Both
organizations share the Baehr Audio-Reader Center building and several staff members across multiple departments. With numerous volunteers,
guests and visitors coming and going every day, the front desk is responsible for greeting visitors, managing studio schedules, issuing
guest parking permits, and guiding guests to the correct person or location within the building. The front desk will answer and direct phone
calls for both organizations, and be well versed in the programs, shows and activities of both A-R and KPR in order to answer questions and
direct queries. Additional duties support A-R’s day-to-day programming and operations, including editing and importing programs for
broadcast, monitoring the broadcast stream, scheduling volunteer readers, and coordinating volunteer A-R assignments. This position assists
every department within both organizations, providing help with various mailings, general administrative/clerical duties, assisting/guiding
guests, and other duties as they arise. This position may be asked to complete other duties to assist when staff are absent from the office.
The position is fully in-person, on-site at the Baehr Audio-Reader Center.
