Position Description:
Under general supervision, the Associate Director (AD) will work independently using applied theory, broad knowledge, honed skills and professional experience to develop and manage programming to improve the learning skills of students, and to assess, evaluate and improve programs, events, activities and interventions to enable the full participation, success, and advancement of engineering and computer science students participating in the UCLA Center for Excellence in Engineering and Diversity (CEED) program in the Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science (HSSEAS). This will include creating, implementing and managing programs to recruit, retain and graduate students from low-income, under resourced communities who are typically underrepresented in the UCLA Samueli School of Engineering; and working with students, faculty, staff, alumni, and other partners to build community, foster a sense of belonging, and create a more inclusive environment within HSSEAS. The primary duties will include but are not limited to: (i) Planning and executing the CEED Undergraduate Summer Programs (Freshman Summer Bridge, BREES and CISE) and Professional Development Events (ii) Curriculum development and facilitation of the Introduction to Engineering (E-87) class for incoming CEED freshmen students, (iii) Planning and managing the Amazon Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) Program, in partnership with Amazon Science, which includes but is not limited to hiring and managing seasonal staff and communicating with students, faculty and industry (iv) Reviewing literature for best practices and developing innovative strategies and interventions to improve student success rates, (v) Coordinating student academic and career success programs, by applying innovative academic support models, creating action plans, and evaluating progress by creating and analyzing qualitative and quantitative assessment instruments. The Associate Director will apply a full range of knowledge, experience, and innovative strategies to plan, develop, assess, implement, and manage CEED programs in the following areas: (a) Coordinate recruitment events for prospective HSSEAS students, (b) Counseling, developing and administering academic improvement plans (c) Analyze CEED student data to prepare presentations and annual report on student performance, retention, graduation, and student success rates of CEED students for comparison with non-CEED students and other Universities, (d) Strengthen the pipeline from the undergraduate programs into graduate programs in Engineering and Computer Science.
A hybrid work schedule with a combination of in-person and remote work may
be agreed upon. Some evenings, weekends, and overnight travel events.
Special Instructions:
The target salary range for this position is between $5833 and $6667 monthly, or $70-$80K annually.
