Laboratory Technologist – College of Veterinary Medicine
The College of Veterinary Medicine invites applicants to apply for the position of Laboratory Technologist. The primary purpose of this position is to provide research support to the two infectious disease and immunology-focused research laboratories of Dr. Andrew Lewin and Dr. Sarah Linn-Peirano. The incumbent will learn and perform routine procedures on clinical specimens, establishing the presence and identification of disease-causing agents or conditions. Performs basic quality control, quality assurance procedures, and troubleshooting. Assists with data reporting. Depending on experience and qualifications of successful candidate, individual will be hired in as a Laboratory Technologist 1, Laboratory Technologist 2, Senior Laboratory Technologist 1, or Senior Laboratory Technologist 2.
Qualifications
Typical Responsibilities:
Assist and support high-quality scientific investigation of infectious disease as directed by Dr. Lewin; learn and perform various biologic, cellular, and molecular research techniques including basic sterile cell culture, viral culture and titration, PCR, gel electrophoresis, qRT-PCR, etc.; have training or willing to be trained in basic animal handling depending on the research study; record and analyze research results; maintain accurate records of research activities and summaries for utilization in manuscripts and grant proposals; assist with abstract, manuscript, poster and publication preparation; help train undergraduate and graduate students in research techniques and equipment operation; monitor research supplies including consumable materials, specimens, and inventory and initiate purchase requests as needed. Perform basic quality control, quality assurance procedures and troubleshooting.

Performs basic quality control, quality assurance procedures and troubleshooting.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Immunology, or relevant laboratory science. Familiarity with basic laboratory procedures; willingness to learn animal handling techniques.
Preferred Qualifications:
Some background in animal handling (rodent, rabbit, dog, cat, and/or cattle) is preferred. Additional relevant experience is preferred.
