Visiting Full-Time Faculty Appointments with Benefits, Multiple Positions
The primary assignment for this
position is teaching in the First Year Studio Program. A secondary assignment may be with one or more of the following departments:
Illustration, Fine Arts, Photography, Entertainment Design, Game Art, Computer Animation, Virtual Reality or Motion Design.
Ringling
College of Art and Design has established an exciting curriculum with unique courses in the first year for every degree program. In order to
meet the needs of this academic vision, the College is seeking candidates that are broadly qualified in their discipline and passionate
about the teaching of introductory courses in a collaborative environment. Candidates should have the expertise and ability to teach and
incorporate two to three of the following competencies and instructional skills sets for introductory level courses listed below
and be able to show expertise in one of the areas listed in the paragraph above.
Competencies and Instructional Skill Sets (ability
to teach two to three of the following):
· Perspective systems and their use in the representation of three-dimensional spaces
and lighting using both traditional and digital media.
· Figure drawing including gesture, pose, anatomy, comparative animal
anatomy and costuming.
· 2-D elements and principles of design and color theory for representational and narrative imagery
with film, photography or digital painting.
· 3-D elements and principles of design for character, environments and narrative
using traditional materials.
· 3-D elements and principles of design for character and narrative using Maya and/or Unreal.
· Observationally based drawing.
· Traditional and digital painting.
Included among the Duties and
Responsibilities of this position are: Teaching first year students, three courses or nine credits per semester. Ongoing commitment to
creative work/scholarship in the profession is expected, dedication to providing quality instruction, and active participation with faculty,
department and college meetings is required, as well as:
· Attending relevant area meetings and critiques.
·
Collaborating with other faculty teaching the same courses to optimize delivery of the common competencies to students.
·
Sharing projects, examples and resources with area colleagues.
· Participating with on-going project reviews.
·
Working with other faculty, course leads, coordinators and program directors/department heads on variations or improvements to the delivery
of the common competencies.
· Attending and participating in end-of-semester curricular reviews, assessment and planning
meetings.
This is a visiting full-time faculty appointment with benefits for the academic year 2023 -2024. The service period is the
academic year beginning the fall semester of 2023 through spring 2024. The salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s
qualifications and experience; and, the anticipated start date is August 2023. The College has a supportive, collegial faculty, a curriculum
that strongly values excellence and a robust support system dedicated to using current technology.
Minimum
Qualifications
Include evidence of:
· A master’s degree that demonstrates expertise appropriate for
teaching art and/or design, OR, a 4-year professional degree in art or design and equivalent experience, training and expertise with an
appropriate record of professional achievement in the field.
· An ability to clearly communicate and work effectively with
faculty, students and administrators.
· Proficiency in digital technology relevant to the area and courses.
·
Must be proficient in the Adobe Suite; specifically, Photoshop and Illustrator.
· Willingness to work in a collaborative
educational environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Include evidence of:
· MFA or other
terminal degree in the field.
· Multiple instruction skills across the areas above.
· Successful college level
teaching experience.
· Ability to teach upper level courses if jointly appointed.
