Job Summary:
Eastern Washington University is currently seeking a Utility Worker 2 – Grounds Maintenance that will perform semi-skilled work in constructing, maintaining or repairing buildings, facilities, utility tunnels, sewer systems, grounds and equipment. Under general supervision, maintain and repair roads, utility systems, parking facilities and institution grounds. This is a new position and an excellent opportunity to join a growing department.

Responsibility / Duty:
Perform semi-skilled maintenance and construction work on buildings, fixtures, equipment, grounds, walks, and driveways; such as repairing and installing sanitary storm drains and sewers; building and repairing parking lots and sidewalks; cleaning roofs and gutters; maintaining tunnel passages, sumps, and utility access holes. Install and maintain campus signs, fences, rockeries, etc. May do layout and job planning on routine maintenance or construction projects; read and interpret blueprints. Position may be required to assist Equipment Operator 2 with projects and duties.

Operate motorized equipment such as automobiles, trucks, including dump trucks, forklifts, backhoes, small tractors and front-end loaders, street cleaning equipment, trailers, trenchers and turf renovation equipment. May operate power and motorized equipment such as small trucks, lawn mowers, edgers, chain saws, weed trimmers, backpack blowers and sweepers.

Responsibility / Duty:
Under direct supervision, perform routine maintenance of institution grounds, such as weeding, mowing lawns and raking leaves. Prepare and maintain campus grounds and/or work in greenhouse or nursery. Prepare soil for planting seed, sod, turf, plants, trees and shrubs. Seed, mow, irrigate, sweep, fertilize, top dress, edge and maintain lawns. Rake and remove leaves; pull and hoe weeds. All trash removal from outside containers and ground. May assist in planting seed, sod, bulbs, shrubs, and trees; assist in transplanting seedlings or other nursery stock. May assist in pruning, spraying and fertilizing trees and shrubs. Assist in the installation and repair of lawn sprinkler system components. Remove debris, leaves, brush, snow and ice from areas such as walks, stairs, roads, ramps and parking facilities.

Use a variety of manual tools and equipment, such as rakes, hand edgers, loppers, shovels, wheelbarrows, weeding forks, hoes, pruning shears and pesticide sprayers. Clean, service and maintain tools and equipment, including power equipment. Clean, service, adjust, and make repairs on tools and equipment; Operate power tools and equipment, such as electric and gas engine driven compressors, large mowers, pneumatic tamper, jackhammer, snowplows and portable pumps.

Maintain all records on AIM associated with regards to labor and materials on a daily basis. Appropriately post time and materials against the correct work orders. Work with other trades to coordinate work between shops in maintenance and construction projects. Assist with estimating of jobs. Must be able to read blueprints.
