Full-time 12-month, Exempt Position
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Assistant/Associate Director of IT Administrative Systems manages and directly supports the university’s student information systems (SIS) and its ancillary systems and applications in order to ensure institutional efficiency and customer satisfaction. The Assistant/Associate Director reports to the Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Information Technology and works with the AVP to provide institution-wide direction in areas of system enhancements, integrations, upgrades, security and overall support of SIS.
Capitol Technology is a private, non-profit, university in South Laurel, Maryland with approximately 800 students and a dedicated full-time staff of 75. The Associate Director of IT Administrative Systems would be part of a team of 5 IT professionals. This position is a great opportunity for an IT professional looking to move into a leadership role.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the university’s student information systems
- Assists with the evaluation of third-party software packages and vendors to determine usefulness and compatibility with existing technology
- Effectively manages projects and resources to articulate project demands, recommend priorities, and provide project updates while adhering to established timelines
- Supervises and supports the administration of the university’s databases
- Provides support and management for the system administration of the CRM. Resolves system issues with the support of the database administration and IT staff
- Completes work orders such as system upgrades, database report requests, user access provisioning
- Attends regular meetings with the Student Information System committee
- Investigates potential new software applications for the organization.
- Works with outside vendors and institutions to implement new systems, programs, and procedures that further the University’s goals
- Oversee the implementation of internal system process improvements and quality assurance methodologies
- Creates and manages technical documentation for administrative systems
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent technical and management experience
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in related technical fields; higher education experience preferred
- Ability to effectively direct a team to meet institutional goals
- Maintains a high degree of technical competence
- Skilled in project planning and execution
- Ability to efficiently identify and resolve both system and user-related challenges
- Possess proficiency in oral and written communications
Skills:
- Ability to manage, direct, and motivate employees
- Demonstrated project management experience
- Excellent interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills including the ability to convey technical information in a meaningful and understandable way
- Quick learner with the ability to adapt to working with different technologies
- Knowledgeable of SQL Database administration and report writing functions
- Ability to create and manage documentation for all SIS related systems
- Prefer experience with university administration software such as Jenzabar J1, PowerFAIDS, Canvas, Artsys and Salesforce
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This position requires sitting occasionally for extended periods of time, and repetitive motions for tasks such as operating a computer mouse and keyboard, and hearing and speaking on the telephone. Position requires ability to crawl under desks/office furniture and access tight spaces. The candidate must be able to lift, pull, bend, grasp, and occasionally lift up to 20 lbs. Occasional exposure to outside elements may be required.
