The Honors College of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga invites applications
for a Professor of Practice and Director of the Innovations in Honors Program.
The Innovations in Honors (IIH) Program is a
two-to-three-year program in the Honors College designed for transfer students and currently enrolled students at the sophomore and junior
levels. A problem-based, community-embedded program that challenges students to utilize design thinking, applied creativity and
problem-solving, and collaboration to address issues in our community, IIH uses Chattanooga and our campus as active learning laboratories.
IIH students work closely with faculty members and civic partners in a two-semester Innovation Lab to tackle authentic, real-world problems
and benefit the larger shared community. IIH students complete a minor in the Honors College which includes a final honors thesis/capstone
project typically completed in the major.
The Director of Innovations in Honors will teach at least one Innovation Lab per year, as
well as other possible student support courses or seminars in the Honors College. In addition, s/he will train other faculty in design
pedagogy, staff all Innovation Labs, meet regularly with and support those instructors, assess the labs, and investigate the development of
streams of revenue from local industry or community partners connected with the labs. This position will coordinate and direct the
Innovations in Honors program as well as teach in it, assess it, and further develop it. This is a 12-month, non-tenured/non-tenurable
administrative position with the status of a professor of practice.
Duties and Responsibilities
Teach an Innovation
Lab and assume all the duties this entails; recruit faculty from across campus and beyond to Innovations in Honors and train them to use
design thinking in the classroom; recruit potential students and execute an orientation for new Innovations in Honors students; develop and
execute additional programming for Innovations in Honors students; develop and execute an assessment plan and a public relations plan for
the Innovation Labs; develop revenue streams with local industry and community partners. The IIH Director is expected to travel with
students to honors conferences and to domestic and international sites connected to class and program work.

Minimum Qualifications: Terminal degree in area of expertise; field of specialty is open. Evidenced
experience working with and in community collaborations; at least three years teaching undergraduates and working in an academic setting.
Preferred Qualifications: Prior experience in honors; experience mentoring undergraduates in research and/or creative
projects; evidence of interdisciplinary work and research; a background or experience with design thinking.
