Job Description
The Syracuse University
Department of Drama seeks to hire a Visiting Assistant Teaching Professor for its Musical Theatre Program. Professional experience and
college level teaching experience are preferred. Specializations may include musical theatre dance, musical theatre performance, and musical
theatre history. Successful candidates will enhance the department’s capacity both to honor and to cultivate the contributions of those
communities that have historically been under-represented or underserved in theater training and/or the profession. The department is
committed to the development of a curriculum that responds effectively to the artistic needs of an ever-changing profession, and that
prepares a diverse array of students to assume leadership roles. The position will teach a variety of courses at all levels as assigned by
the Chair and based upon expertise. Additionally, the position may direct or choreograph, depending upon expertise, for department
productions. This position begins in August 2022.

Qualifications
* Bachelor’s degree plus
additional preparation as demonstrated by either significant professional experience at the highest level and/or relevant advanced degree,
are required.
* Demonstrated teaching excellence in a pre-professional, professional, or university environment is highly desired.
* Demonstrated personal and professional experience, teaching, and creative activity that will contribute to the advancement of equity,
aesthetic diversity, and cultural wealth are required.
Job Specific Qualifications
* Expertise in diverse
aesthetic genres and styles as applied to musical theatre and performance.
Responsibilities
* Prepare and
teach studio classes in dance and musical theatre performance and/or history.
* Prepare syllabi with clearly defined course outcomes
and grading criteria.
* Be available for weekly office hours.
* Offer timely feedback and grading.
* Attend faculty
meetings.
* Work collaboratively with colleagues from all programs of study within in the department.
