Summary of Duties:
Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) at Washington State University (WSU) is searching for both generalist therapists and multicultural specialists to provide culturally affirming mental health services to WSU Pullman students. These services include initial consultations, brief, focused individual counseling, psychotherapy groups and workshops, single-session interventions, crisis appointments, assessment, biofeedback, and couples counseling. The position also provides professional consultation to WSU faculty, staff, and students regarding student behavior, mental health, and academic challenges in order to enhance an inclusive campus climate for student success.
The Multicultural Specialist position prioritizes working with students from marginalized communities including Black/African American, Latinx, Undocumented, Indigenous/First Nations, Asian American/Pacific Islander, Multi-racial, and other students of color. The Multicultural Specialist builds liaison relationships with relevant offices and student groups, as well as developing outreach presentations and other programs.
In addition to providing mental health services and consultation, CAPS has a large psychology training program. CAPS is an APA-accredited doctoral internship site and also provides practicum training to doctoral students in WSU’s Clinical Psychology Program. This position may participate in the training program through clinical supervision and didactic training. CAPS is part of Cougar Health Services which provides student-centered integrated health and wellness services. In addition to CAPS, Cougar Health Services houses the student medical clinic, pharmacy, vision center, and health promotion department.
This position is either 10 or 12 months, with flexibility to contract between 32 – 40 hours worked weekly (i.e., .8 – 1.0 FTE).
Required Qualifications:
For all Applicants:
Excellent generalist clinical skills and experience providing brief, focused counseling services.
Experience working with high-risk individuals providing risk assessment and crisis appointments.
Experience and commitment to providing services to diverse student populations including, but not limited to, BIPOC students, LGBTQ+ students, undocumented, migrant, and immigrant students, international students, and veterans.
Experience providing clinical services to young adults in an outpatient setting.
Additionally, for the Multicultural Specialist:
Demonstrated experience working with students from marginalized communities, in clinical work and in outreach/other programming.
Additionally, for Masters-level clinicians:
Bachelor’s degree and three (3) years of professional work experience in student services or related Experience leading or directing the work of others. A Master’s degree in a related field may substitute for one (1) year of professional work experience. Any combination of relevant education and professional experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year‐for‐year basis.
A Master’s degree in social work, counseling, or equivalent.
Licensure as a LMHC or LICSW in the state of Washington within one year.
Additionally, for Doctoral-level clinicians:
A doctoral degree in Clinical or Counseling Psychology and completion of doctoral internship.
Licensure as a Psychologist in the state of Washington within one year.
Preferred Qualifications:
For all applicants:
One-year experience working in a university counseling center (experience obtained while earning degree is acceptable).
Graduate of an APA-accredited doctoral program as well as an APA-accredited internship (for doctoral applicants).
License eligible in the state of Washington.
Experience facilitating psychotherapy groups and workshops.
Experience providing outreach and consultation on a university campus.
Experience and interest providing clinical supervision and training to graduate-level trainees.
Experience working in a multidisciplinary setting.
Bilingual or multilingual.
Additionally, for the Generalist:
Specialized training and experience in one or more of the following: psychological assessment including LD/ADHD testing and writing integrated psychological testing reports, or counseling and program development with students belonging to traditionally underserved groups.

In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.
