General Position Description
Responsible for the delivery of Accelerated Skills Training and Professional & Continuing Education programs within the discipline area(s) in which they have specific training and/or competence. Develops, plans, organizes, teaches, and provides feedback to promote and direct students learning in keeping with Valencia College’s learning centered values and in a manner that meets the essential competencies of a Valencia College educator.

Description of Job Function
1. Engages in building a positive and impactful student experience by creating a learning environment that is inclusive, engaging, safe, supportive, and effective in preparing students for the workforce.
2. Contributes to the curriculum development process by developing, evaluating, and refining curriculum to meet industry needs.
3. Supports incumbent training for partners by offering training solutions, developing training materials, and providing instruction.
4. Effectively delivers content to students via dynamic instruction including hands-on skills training. Ensures the proper balance of theory and relevant hands-on activities to support mastery of skills.
5. Provides students timely and constructive feedback on their progress including evaluation of their mastery of the course content and career applications.
6. Manages student behavior, and engages in intervention strategies aimed at student development, retention and engagement.
7. Consistently remains available to students for instructional support outside of the classroom.
8. Communicates effectively with program leadership regarding student achievements, concerns, and/or issues.
9. Engages in professional development/growth, in fulfillment of annual performance plans, and as required for certification. Stays current on industry trends by networking with employer partners, collaborating with other colleagues, and participating on advisory boards.
10. Partners with the Recruiting and Job Placement Team (RJP) on recruiting and placement activities, developing relationships with new hiring partners, and seeking internship/employment opportunities.
11. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Minimum Education
High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
Required Field of Study
Education or training in or related to the specific field of instruction/courses taught.
Other Required Qualifications
Industry credentials/certifications or training directly related to the accelerated skill courses taught.
Work or field experience directly related to the accelerated skill courses taught.
Preferred Education & Field of Study
Associate’s degree from a regionally accredited institution.
Preferred Type of Experience
Instructional experience in an accelerated skills training or related vocational field.
Experience with creating and deploying student engagement and retention strategies.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
1. Knowledge of designated industry and practical experience in relevant work environment.
2. Knowledge of industry certifications and ability to identify training gaps in a students’ learning.
3. Ability to design learning and training experiences to meet real world outcomes.
4. Ability to work with staff on projects and programs for the students to enhance development of the hands-on skills necessary for job placement.
5. Ability to develop and implement diverse teaching and learning strategies that accommodate the learning styles of students and that promote both acquisition and applications of knowledge and understanding (Learning Centered Teaching Strategies).
6. Ability to use consistent, timely formative and summative assessment measures to enhance learning (Assessment).
7. Ability to counsel students on relevant industry careers and pathways bringing confidence and clarity to their future education and career goals.
8. Ability to design learning opportunities that acknowledge, draw upon, and are enriched by student diversity in the learning environment. (Inclusion and Diversity)
9. Commitment to stay current and continually improve knowledge and understanding of industry trends, equipment, and technology. (Professional Commitment).
10. Knowledge of, ability to develop, and commitment to use emerging technologies and alternative delivery methods appropriately, including online delivery, hybrid course options, digital content, experiential learning activities, etc.
11. Skill in the use of personal computers, teleconferencing and general office software.
12. Ability to effectively communicate interpersonally (in groups and one-on-one settings), orally, and in writing. Strong interpersonal skills to develop relationships with students, graduates, staff, funding partners and potential employers. Proficiency in target language relevant to desired market.
13. Ability to work effectively in a diverse community and meet the needs of diverse student populations.
General Working Conditions
This job operates in a professional office environment and throughout the College’s worksites and grounds. Within the professional office environment, the employee will routinely operate standard office equipment including but not limited to computers, keyboards, mouse, phones, photocopiers, printers, scanners, filing cabinets and fax machines. The noise level in the office work environment is usually quiet and occasionally moderate.
While operating outside of the office environment, the employee may be exposed to elements including but not limited to wet/humid weather, extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, and unpleasant odors. The role may also involve hazards or physical risks, which require comprehending and following basic safety precautions and may require Personal Protection Equipment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and occasionally loud.
Typical physical competencies include but are not limited to remaining stationary, moving, ascending/descending, positioning self, reaching, lifting/moving objects weighing between 5-100 pounds. This job also entails frequently communicating, discerning and exchanging information, detecting and perceiving objects up close, at a distance, and the ability to adjust focus. Cognitive abilities include but are not limited to discretion, judgment, reasoning, memory, learning, maintaining confidentiality, comprehension, problem solving, and decision-making.

Job specific working conditions
Must be able to travel locally on a flexible schedule, as needed. Must have reliable transportation, and proof of liability and property damage insurance on the vehicle used may be required. This position requires in-office and out-of-office (community) responsibilities that will vary on a daily / weekly basis. Must be willing to work some nights and weekends, as needed.
For specific disciplines, may be required to maintain an appropriate and valid driver’s license required to operate vehicles utilized for courses taught.
