The University of Virginia’s Tibet Center seeks applicants for a Tibetan Research and Training Specialist. This position will be part of a larger collaborative team responsible for the creation, distribution, and/or delivery of capacity-building trainings in professional development, cultural documentation, and/or entrepreneurship. This position may also include creation and indexing of online digital humanities content as needed. The successful candidate will have knowledge of Tibetan language, and a Master’s in Tibetan Studies or related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. A Ph.D. in Tibetan Studies or related discipline is preferred. The initial term of employment is one year, with the possibility of renewal pending available funding and meeting performance expectations.
UVA’s Tibet Center was established in 2008 to promote an integrated model of knowledge and practice consisting of study programs, research initiatives, library collections, collaborative scholarly initiatives, and engaged social programs hosted by the University of Virginia.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: A Master’s degree in Tibetan Studies or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
Experience: Some – up to 4 years, conducting research in Tibet and/or culturally Tibetan areas, designing and delivering capacity-building trainings. Strong knowledge of at least one Tibetan dialect and the ability to perform detailed work using computers is required. Experience with Microsoft Office is required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience creating and/or editing audio-visual content, transcription and/or translation, or combination thereof. Knowledge of Chinese language is preferred. Experience with Camtasia, Final Cut Pro, Adobe Bridge, Media Pro, and/or InqScribe is preferred.
Licensure: None.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
