About the Job
Summary of Position:
This position has the
responsibility of maintaining experimental plots as well as sampling and collecting data from these plots. This position also includes
assisting in prescribed burn activities in order to maintain experimental treatments.
Essential and Other Functions:
50 % 1.
Collect research samples and data. – Duties include: plant IDing, soil and root coring, harvesting aboveground biomass.
25% 2.
Maintain experimental plots.- Duties include mowing around plots, weeding plots, applying herbicide/insecticide treatments, maintaining
warming lamps, and other mics. Tasks.
25% 3. Assist with prescribed burning.- Duties include: burn unit prep by chain sawing, mowing
and disking. Also must help with the burning and monitoring of the burns. This could result in evening and weekend
work.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
* High school graduation and two years of related education
and/or related experience should provide the necessary background for this work.
Preferred Qualifications
* Must know 100
Minnesota prairie species
* Must have working knowledge of plant ecology research techniques: such as but not limited to: clipping
biomass, soil coring, and percent cover
* Person also must have chain saw, tractor and prescribed burn
experience
