Job Responsibilities
Provide mentorship to student leaders by meeting with them regularly. Develop and facilitate leadership training for student leadership twice a semester. Ensure that programming meets the unique goals of students specifically students of color, LGBT students, students with special interests and initiatives. IE: Event planning, professional development, social engagement/community building within or for their groups. Oversee the election process, onboarding, and training of student leaders. Advise Student Government of policies and procedures and event planning procedures. Ensure that all student organizations have an understanding of purchasing and event planning policies and procedures. Ensure that student leaders have a process for electing leadership, creating student led programing and succession planning.
Develop a system for increasing student engagement by across the five-degree programs and with other graduate schools through student groups and student initiatives. IE: Student participant numbers, collaboration, co-sponsored events, and overall satisfaction. Advise and support students not involved in student government on student leadership training, event planning, room reservation, catering and advertising.
Attend VPUL student affairs meeting, GAPSA meetings, and SP2 Student Government Meetings as scheduled and take notes and report back on updates to policies and procedures, upcoming events and possible collaborations. Meet regularly with student leaders to provide support, coaching and guidance on how to create inclusive student programming. Manage student group issues. Refer students to campus resources when needed and consult with Associate Dean of Students on resolution when implemented resolutions are not effective.
Ensure student spaces meet the needs of students by regularly checking in with students through meetings and feedback surveys. Be responsive to students’ requests related to common spaces.
Develop and implement assessment and evaluation procedures for student engagement, community building and student leaders. Analyze data and report to the Associate Dean of Student Affairs to help develop strategies, programs and initiatives or policy changes to address challenges and student issues related to student engagement and climate.
Perform additional duties as assigned, including participation in convocation and graduation ceremonies as needed.
