ORGANIZATIONAL GROUP: Medical School
DEPARTMENT: MM Ophthal. & Visual Science
Summary
A Research Laboratory Technician Associate position is available in the research laboratory of Dr. Rajesh Rao in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences in the Kellogg Eye Center at the University of Michigan, Michigan Medicine in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Dr. Rao is a vitreoretinal surgeon interested in the biology of and therapeutic approaches to retinal degeneration and other visual disorders. Our lab utilizes various cutting-edge techniques such as cell/tissue/organoid culture models, next-generation sequencing, animal models of disease, and numerous molecular biology techniques to discern the genetics and epigenetics that determine retinal cell fate.
The focus of the lab is stem cell biology and epigenetics. Since eye diseases are the first human disorders for which clinical trials for embryonic and induced pluripotent stem cell-derived tissue transplantation are being conducted, you will be at the cutting edge of a technology important for regenerative medicine.
We are seeking a commitment from a highly-motivated individual who desires to contribute to research in a team-based environment that involves collaborations with a variety of basic and clinical scientific experts. The candidate should have outstanding organizational skills, reliability and ability to multitask between wet lab work and regulatory/written tasks. The candidate should show enthusiasm to participate in collaborative efforts with other research groups, work well in a team, and have a strong ability to multitask. Applicants with a background in state-of-the-art approaches (e.g., omics-techniques, microscopy, bioinformatics), embryonic stem cell biology, and familiarity with retinal development pathways are strongly encouraged to apply.
Interested individuals should submit a cover letter, CV, and names and contact information of at least two references.
* Position is for a 1 to 2 year appointment.
