Position Description:
Reporting to the Circulation, Reserves, and Stacks Manager (CRSM) the Circulation & Stacks Coordinator supervises the Law Library’s circulation and stacks operations and ensures that the library is adequate staffing with trained Student Circulation & Stacks Supervisors & Interlibrary Loan/Document Delivery/Stacks (ILL/DD/Stacks) student assistants and clerks. Assists patrons at the Circulation Desk and provides basic and limited reference services. In conjunction with the ILL Department hires, trains, schedules and supervises the ILL/DD/Stacks student assistants and clerks. Supervises full-time guards and student Community Service Officers (CSOs) on duty at the access control point. Manages all aspects of stacks maintenance for the Law Library’s public, closed, and special collections/archives stack areas, including planning, supervising and implementing the shelving, shelf-reading, searching and shifting of stack areas. Provides reserve, billing and departmental support ensuring full and proper communication occurs between various day and between day and evening shifts. Performs multiple duties simultaneously while at the Circulation Desk. The Circulation and Stacks Coordinator has primary supervisory responsibility for the library’s morning circulation operations and serves as the primary supervisor of the Law Library on Saturdays and occasionally on holidays. The schedule for the position is Tuesday ? Friday, 7:00 am-4:00 pm; Saturday, 8:00 am-5:00 pm, but may vary to support operational needs and during finals and intersessions.
The UCLA Law Library serves the Law School faculty and students as their basic library and study resources for teaching and research. There are approximately 1,200 law students, approximately 100 full- and part-time faculty, and more than 120 Law School staff. The school has a varied and demanding curriculum, highly productive faculty, an extensive clinical and externship program and a co-curricular program that includes an active Moot Court program and 13 law reviews. The Law Library also supplies the legal literature resources for other UCLA faculty, students, and staff with a need for such materials. Regular use of the Law Library is made by members of the bench and bar. The Law Library is one of the larger professional school libraries on campus. It currently has a staff of 17 librarians and 13 staff personnel, as well as many part-time student employees. It contains over 600,000 bound volumes and documents and over 96,000 microform titles. The administration of the Law Library is headed by the Law Library Director who reports to the Dean of the UCLA School of Law. The day-to-day functions of the library have been divided into four sections, each headed by an Assistant Law Librarian: Access & Information Services (AIS), Bibliographic Services & Collection Management, Scholarship Support & RA Program, and Reference & Research Services. The AIS department interacts extensively and collaboratively with the other three departments in providing services to the Law School community. The library hires numerous student employees throughout the library and also supervises a large number of law students hired by the UCLA School of Law as research assistants who are assigned to work on various projects for faculty.
