IT Administrator – UTPD
Description: This position will contribute to the overall safety and security of the University of Tennessee Knoxville campus by providing both technical support and act as a technical advisor for a wide variety of systems related to standard business, safety and security, and emergency management operations. The position will be responsible for maintenance of current systems, research and advising on integration of systems and upgrades, and include demonstrating subject matter expertise in a variety of hardware and software products. The position will report to the UT Police Department with occasional duties to other Public Safety divisions as needed. Document recommended repairs and upgrades and develop preventive maintenance checklist and schedule for each installation. Evaluate cost effective equipment repairs versus purchasing new equipment and make recommendations to supervisory staff.
Provide comprehensive PC hardware and software support for UTPD, including server administration, mobile device integration, and video systems.
Use Microsoft Intune for MDM solutions in a CJIS environment with Android devices.
Maintain comprehensive knowledge of higher education, law enforcement, and physical security systems and their specific requirements for security, redundancy, and future proofing.
Administer Windows Domain and Azure containers and their policies.
Administrate physical and virtual servers and implement best practices according to law enforcement standards and University IT standards.
Research and make purchasing recommendations across a wide spectrum of IT and electronic devices as needed.
Public Safety Division Support (outside of UTPD)-
Coordinate with campus IT on all requirements necessary to ensure proper functioning of systems within the campus network.
To include redundancy and resiliency of critical response systems.
Provide support for other divisions of Public Safety to coordinate with UTPD and it’s own systems.
Work with other Public Safety division service owners for research and management of systems and services.
Coordinate with campus IT on all requirements necessary to ensure proper functioning of UTPD systems within the campus network.
Work with service owners in UTPD to provide guidance for research, purchase of and support of software systems.
Assist in the development of technology proposals for the UTPD systems and equipment.
Serve as subject matter expert on campus camera operations and system integration.
A background check that includes a criminal history, sex offender registry, credit check, and personal & professional reference checks will be conducted by the department. This position would not be required to respond to the University for general delayed operations; however, the position does serve in the EOC and may be needed at UTPD for critical events.
Occasional weekend or evening response for IT needs may be required.
Qualifications
Position Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required or in lieu of degree 7-8 years of related experience in the field of information technology, higher education and/or law enforcement.

Preferred Qualifications:
Preference given to related degrees or equivalent work related experience in the field of information technology, higher education and/or law enforcement.
Process:
Candidates should submit an online application to the UT Office of Human Resources. Upon receipt of an online application, the Office of Human Resources will forward qualified candidates to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Public Safety or his designee. An Oral Review Committee will be established and may consist of personnel internal and external to UT Public Safety. The Associate Vice Chancellor for Public Safety will make the final selection for this position.
