About the College/Unit/Department:
The Department of Geography is a growing, thriving, and congenial department of 25 faculty within the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences. The Department has over 100 undergraduates and 51 graduate students. Please see https://geography.uga.edu/ for more information. The Atmospheric Sciences Program, created in 2000, includes eight Geography faculty who are responsible for nearly all of the teaching responsibilities for the atmospheric sciences major that is housed in the Geography Department. The Atmospheric Sciences program has experienced rapid growth since the establishment of the major in 2017 and now has more than 50 majors. Our undergraduates have won multiple scholastic and research honors, including six NOAA Hollings Scholarships in the past three years and two National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowships in the past year. Our facilities include an X-band radar operated in collaboration with Georgia Tech Research Institute, a broadcast studio with WSI Max graphics software, and numerical modeling capabilities. Our very active student groups include a student chapter of the American Meteorological Society, the WeatherDawgs forecasting team, and a computer coding club. Position Summary:
The Department of Geography and its associated Atmospheric Sciences Program invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track Lecturer position starting August 2024. The responsibilities include teaching some combination of four courses per semester in the undergraduate Atmospheric Sciences and Geography curricula. Some coursework responsibilities could possibly be offset by advising of undergraduates and student groups.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies:
The ideal candidate should reflect a strong commitment to teaching some combination of Atmospheric Physics, Atmospheric Thermodynamics, Mesoscale and Radar Meteorology, Synoptic Meteorology/Climatology, Weather Analysis and Forecasting, and introductory courses in Physical Geography and Introduction to Weather and Climate at the undergraduate level.

Duties/Responsibilities:
The responsibilities of the position include teaching courses required for the Atmospheric Sciences B.S. degree program at the introductory, intermediate, and advanced undergraduate levels. In addition the position will offer introductory courses in Geography as needed. The position may hold responsibilities in the area of coordinating and managing weather-related software and data, and in advising undergraduate B.S. majors in Atmospheric Sciences.
