The Claremont Colleges Services (TCCS) is the central coordinating and support organization for a highly regarded cluster of seven independent colleges known as The Claremont Colleges. TCCS with a staff of 300, provides exceptional shared services to 9,000 students, and almost 3,600 faculty and staff. TCCS staff work in both student-facing services as well as administrative and operational services. Our numerous departments are located throughout The Claremont Colleges campus in the beautiful city of Claremont, California.
ABOUT THE POSITION:
The Claremont Colleges Services seeks a diversely experienced and talented library professional for the position of Director for Distinctive Collections and Digital Scholarship at The Claremont Colleges Library (TCCL).
The Director of Distinctive Collections and Digital Scholarship (DCDS) will bring a deep understanding of the major strategies, opportunities, challenges and trends facing academic libraries today in the areas of open publishing, data and digital scholarship, the curation of digital assets, and the enhancement of research, teaching and learning through special collections and archives. The successful candidate in this position will show an understanding of the relationship between traditional special collections and current digital initiatives taking place at The Claremont Colleges Library (TCCL), a vibrant, innovative and inclusive center for research, teaching, learning, and scholarship serving students, faculty and staff of The Claremont Colleges community.
The position is responsible for articulating a vision of the application of digital strategies to preserve, enhance and expand access to distinctive print-based collections and primary source materials. This position is also responsible for building awareness of and support for digital archives and digital repositories as well as examining strategies for the ongoing growth and stewardship of the Claremont Colleges Digital Library (CCDL) and the Scholarship@Claremont institutional repository. In addition to supervisory responsibilities for TCCL’s Digital Initiatives Coordinator and Digital Production Lead, the position has oversight over three main units within the newly-formed DCDS division: Digital Scholarship, Scholarly Communications and Open Publishing and Special Collections and Archives. The distinctive and unique collections of the Asian Library are also included within this division.
Reporting to the Dean of The Claremont Colleges Library, and serving as a member of the Library’s senior leadership team, this position requires a capacity to thrive and respond effectively to the changing, and unique, needs of The Claremont Colleges, a distinctive consortium comprised of five undergraduate colleges and two graduate institutions located forty miles from Los Angeles in the college town of Claremont, California. The Library is a member of the Oberlin Group of Libraries, the HathiTrust, the Greater Western Library Alliance (GWLA), the Center for Research Libraries (CRL) and SCELC. It is one of eighteen main service departments of The Claremont Colleges Services (TCCS) which is the central support organization for The Claremont Colleges. The Claremont Colleges Services Library Staff Federation (AFT Local 6735) represents the majority of professional and paraprofessional staff within the Library.
Specific duties include:
Work Schedule: The regular hours for this full-time position are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. May be required to work holiday, weekend, and/or evening hours. Regular hours may vary due to needs of the organization or business unit.
Vaccination: TCCS requires the COVID-19 vaccination as a condition of employment. New employees are required to present evidence of complete COVID-19 vaccination within 30 calendar days of hire, unless a medical or religious accommodation or exemption is requested and granted.
COMPENSATION
Pay: The monthly salary for this position is competitive and commensurate with the duties, responsibilities, and qualifications required for the position, from $7,916 to $9,333 per month.
