This position is expected to start in-person around August or September 2024 and continue through the entire fall term (i.e. through end of 2024) or into early 2025 if available. We ask for a minimum of 12 weeks, full-time and on-site, for most internships. Please consider before submitting an application.
International Students: If your work authorization is through CPT, please consult your school on your ability to work 40 hours per week before applying. You must be able to work 40 hours per week on-site. Many students will be limited to part-time during the academic year.

The Tesla Bot team designs and builds general purpose humanoid robots to automate boring, repetitive, and dangerous tasks. As a Tesla Bot Mechanical Engineer, you will play a crucial role in the development of cutting-edge robotics technology aimed at generating useful work and enhancing human quality of life. You will work alongside a talented team of mechanical, electrical, controls, and AI engineers to build this revolutionary product. We love hiring candidates from diverse technical backgrounds, with an emphasis on creativity and rigorous problem solving.
Actuator Design, Tesla Bot:
During your internship at Tesla, you will be working on groundbreaking new actuator technology for the Tesla Bot. You will work with a variety of teams developing the next generation of actuators including prototyping & testing. This includes motor, geartrain, structural as well as sensor design. You will be stationed in Palo Alto, California. The internship will give you the possibility to become full time member of the Tesla team.
What You’ll Bring
Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, Mechatronics or a related field
Proficiency in designing parts and assemblies using 3D modeling software (CATIA preferred)
Experience drafting engineering drawings and conducting tolerance stack-up analysis (GD&T bonus)
High mechanical design aptitude with a keen vision for manufacturability
Strong intuition for structural optimization supported by FEA/hand calculations
Good electrical foundation with knowledge about gearbox, motor, inverter, wire harness design
Programming skills in MATLAB/Simulink and/or Python are preferred
Ability to prototype using fabrication, machining, and basic electronics/coding abilities
Excellent communication/presentation skills and ability to work in a fast-paced and challenging environment
As a full-time Tesla Intern, you will be eligible for:
$20.00 – $50.00 + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
