Description
The Department of Counseling and School Psychology has an opening for teaching a graduate level course, CSP 620: Foundations of the Professional School Counselor Leader, summer 2023. The course is offered July 5th through August 16th, 2023 and is for incoming year one school counseling students admitted to the program. The instructor should possess extensive knowledge in the field of school counseling along with behaviors of advocacy and leadership necessary to increase access and equity in educational systems for all K-12 students. The course covers topics, such as overview of the roles, responsibilities, functions, and characteristics of a school counselor with a focus on deconstructing and exploring the depths of a comprehensive school counseling program, recognizing that school counselors are change agents, advocates, and collaborators within educational systems. The course will examine the historical, philosophical, and contemporary trends of school counseling in America’s diverse public-school systems.
Qualifications
The instructor must hold an earned doctorate (Ph.D.) in counselor education with a preferred specialization in school counseling or in a related field of study from a CACREP or CACREP like program by the time of appointment. The instructor must hold a school counseling credential with at least two years of experience as a professional school counselor or educational leader in a K-12 school setting. The instructor must have a strong framework and commitment to work towards equity and social justice in schools and communities by advancing anti-racist, decolonial, or critical pedagogies, research, and service. The instructor must have experience in student and systems advocacy and preparing of school counselors as culturally sustaining leaders in ethnically and linguistically diverse school-based programs.
We are seeking applicants with demonstrated experience in and/or commitment to teaching and working effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and members of underrepresented groups. Candidates must satisfy two or more of the eight SDSU Building on Inclusive Excellence (BIE) criteria. Candidates that meet BIE criteria: (a) are committed to engaging in service with underrepresented populations within the discipline, (b) have demonstrated knowledge of barriers for underrepresented students and faculty within the discipline, (c) have experience or have demonstrated commitment to teaching and mentoring underrepresented students, (d) have experience or have demonstrated commitment to integrating understanding of underrepresented populations and communities into research, (e) have experience in or have demonstrated commitment to extending knowledge of opportunities and challenges in achieving artistic/scholarly success to members of an underrepresented group, (f) have experience in or have demonstrated commitment to research that engages underrepresented communities, (g) have expertise or demonstrated commitment to developing expertise in cross-cultural communication and collaboration, and/or (h) have research interests that contribute to diversity and equal opportunity in higher education. Compensation
The salary schedule information for the Lecturer – 12 month Classification is available based on the following ranges:
Lecturer A (Range 2 ) – $5,168 – 6,946
Lecturer B (Range 3) – $6,190 – 13,797
Lecturer C (Range 4) – $7,102 – 15,145
Lecturer D (Range 5) – $8,964 – 15,864
The anticipated hiring range is generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range, commensurate with education and experience.
