Accounting Manager – Troubled Company and Receivership Practice
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Accounting Manager will be responsible for managing all aspects of the financial operations and reporting for insurance companies in supervision or receivership. The Accounting Manager’s responsibilities may also include handling employee relations, policies and procedures, employee benefits, payroll, and may perform other administrative duties as required.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Responsible for all aspects of accounting (accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, general ledger entries, bank reconciliation, reinsurance recoverable, tax preparation and reporting, cash applications, collections, and payroll)
* Responsible for delivering timely and accurate financial processing, month end close, cash management reports, and balance sheet reconciliation
* Responsible for cash management, including performing wire transfers, ACH payments, and monitoring bank activity
* Maintain professional banking relationships
* Coordinate and direct the development and preparation of budgets, forecasts, and projections
* Prepare reinsurance billings and reconciliation of balances due to and from reinsurers
* Administer reinsurance audits in accordance with the reinsurance treaties
* Review payroll taxes and ensure timely payment of payroll and corporate taxes by payroll service
* Prepare and track State Sales & Use Taxes: quarterly; semi-annually; or annually for based on statute priorities
* Review state and federal tax filings
* Prepare various analysis needed for court filings
* Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, bank reports, and various detailed analysis reports, including MISC-1099 for companies in receivership
* Maintain files and comply with record retention requirements and court record destruction orders
* Process payroll using a payroll service
* Gather appropriate information from employees and maintain personnel files
* Set up employees on company e-mail address book for emergency contact purposes
* Maintain employee vacation and pre-receivership and post-receivership records
* Manage the benefit forms with the various agencies
* Negotiate the company’s insurance policies annually or as often as fiscally beneficial (physical damage, liability, worker’s compensation) and oversee the claims submission process to ensure loss control measures are being adhered to
* Attend insurance and receivership training virtually and/or in person
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
* Thorough knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, insurance statutory accounting knowledge is a plus
* Strong leadership, management, and organizational skills
* Strong analytical and reasoning abilities with superior numeric skills
* Possess well-developed interpersonal and communication, verbal, and written skills
* Must be result and profit oriented with the ability to balance other business considerations and perform multifaceted projects
* Must be highly motivated and able to function independently and multi-task
* Must be detail oriented
* Ability to manage and direct employees
* Ability to resolve employee conflicts, problems, and complaints
* Expert computer skills – proficient in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Access, and Outlook with emphasize on using accounting software
MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
* Minimum of a Bachelors Degree in Accounting, combined with 3-5 years experience in Accounting
* Insurance Industry experience, MBA, CFA or CPA strongly preferred
* Statutory accounting experience is a plus
* Potential travel up to 25%
