Olivet College, a liberal arts college in south central Michigan with a long-standing commitment to inclusion and diversity, seeks an Assistant Professor of Social Work & BSW Program Director to develop our emerging Bachelor of Social Work program. We are looking for the right individual to expand our existing social work minor into an accredited bachelor’s-level program. Responsibilities include preparing the program for approval with the Higher Learning Commission and eventual accreditation with the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE), including the successful completion of the self-study and the alignment of the curriculum with the nine CSWE Social Work Competencies. Experience with CSWE and the accreditation process is essential. Expected full launch of the program is Fall 2023. As part of the initial program start up, the successful candidate will design a CSWE-aligned curriculum and develop connections in local and regional communities with the goal of developing effective and engaging field education sites for our students. We are seeking an individual interested in pursuing a leadership position in an emerging program training social workers to serve our world.
The position is a full-time tenure track faculty position appointed at the assistant or associate professor rank, depending upon prior academic positions, and will be responsible for instruction at the undergraduate level. The college’s plan is ultimately to develop a master of social work program at the college as well, building upon a successful BSW program. The successful candidates will work with students in the program, provide instruction and program development, and actively engage in scholarship in their areas of disciplinary interest.
Given the college’s commitment to supporting a diverse and inclusive faculty, members of historically underrepresented groups are strongly encouraged to apply. The BSW program must include a strong commitment to preparing social workers who are devoted to equity, diversity, and inclusion. We are seeking colleagues who share our institutional vision of individual and social responsibility and who can work collaboratively to develop this exciting program at the college.
Position Requirements: DSW or PhD in Social Work from a CSWE-accredited program is preferred; ABD or a Master’s degree in Social Work from a CSWE-accredited program with at least two years of post-Master’s degree practice experience is required.
The successful candidate will have demonstrated successful teaching at the undergraduate level. Candidates must indicate a clear commitment to teaching and provide evidence of the ability to create positive and engaging learning experiences for students and facilitate student learning in the classroom and online. Preference will be given to applicants with demonstrated competence working with culturally diverse groups in teaching, scholarship, and/or service.
Candidates who are passionate about teaching and mentoring undergraduate students in a collaborative, collegial, and engaging academic environment are strongly encouraged to apply.
Position Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses in the program and will be provided with course releases to fulfill the administrative responsibilities of their position. Core faculty in the program are responsible for course delivery and curriculum development, as well as engagement with students in the capacity of mentor and academic advisor. Along with instruction and student engagement, faculty responsibilities include scholarship and service to the college, the discipline or profession, and the larger society. Faculty members are expected to participate in the academic life of the Social Science department and the college.
Starting Date: July 1, 2022. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue as required.
