Job Description
The NAUPD Evidence and Property Technician or Evidence and Property Technician, Senior (EPT) serves as evidence and property custodian who receives, documents, stores, secures and releases property taken into control by the police department and is responsible for on-going audits of inventory, computer entries and records data in accordance with established procedure. This position is exposed to dangerous materials such as biohazard materials, weapons and/or narcotics. The EPT may assist with crime scene processing and is subject to call out. The EPT disposes of property after adjudication or written release from officer by releasing to owner, destroying, or selling property according to established procedures, photographs evidence before destruction as necessary. The EPT arranges the transport of evidence to the state laboratory for scientific examination. The EPT maintains video evidence storage, software, and equipment and serves as the primary content redaction specialist in accordance with state public records laws and criminal court procedures. The EPT receives lost and found property; tries to locate/notify owner; documents and releases to owner after confirming identification. The EPT stores records according to a set retention schedule. The EPT orders, stores and issues inventory of supplies and equipment to personnel such as uniforms, weapons, and associated equipment.
The EPT or EPT, Sr is also responsible for fleet management to include maintaining logs and making arrangements for maintenance and repair of department equipment and vehicles; performs minor repair or maintenance as required. The EPT will serve as a purchasing card holder for the department and responsible for associated processes and requirements. The EPT provides public assist functions to include fingerprinting and traffic control. The EPT completes departmental reports as necessary. The EPT is responsible for ensuring department compliance with, and providing proof of, evidence and property related CALEA (Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies) and ALEAP (Arizona Law Enforcement Accreditation Program) standards as assigned by the NAUPD Accreditation Manager.
Evidence and Property Technician
Supports university law enforcement efforts by collecting and maintaining physical evidence from crime scenes to provide consistent and accurate information. Works in coordination with university police to ensure proper gathering and handling of all evidence and property based on established institutional standards.

Collects and evaluates forensic evidence from university crime scenes in coordination with university police efforts to provide consistent and accurate information. Works alongside law enforcement staff to ensure proper gathering and handling of all evidence and property based on established institutional standards.

Background Information
This position has been identified as a safety/security sensitive position. Therefore, per AZ Revised Statute, Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, employment history investigation, degree verification (in some cases) and fingerprinting. If you are applying for a job that requires a CDL, you will be required to register with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse and adhere to the clearinghouse requirements. Additionally, as an employer in the state of Arizona, NAU is required to participate in the federal E-Verify program that assists employers with verifying new employees’ right to work in the United States. Finally, each year Northern Arizona University releases an Annual Security Report. The report is a result of a federal law known as the Clery Act. The report includes Clery reportable crime statistics for the three most recent completed calendar years and discloses procedures, practices and programs NAU uses to keep students and employees safe including how to report crimes or other emergencies occurring on campus. In addition, the Fire Safety Report is combined with the Annual Security Report for the NAU Flagstaff Mountain Campus as this campus has on-campus student housing. This report discloses fire safety policies and procedures related to on-campus student housing and statistics for fires that occurred in those facilities. Salary
Evidence and Propety Technician
¿Salary range begins at $37,584. Annual salary commensurate with candidate’s qualifications and related experience.
Evidence and Propety Technician, Senior
Salary range begins at $45,023. Annual salary commensurate with candidate’s qualifications and related experience.
FLSA Status
This position is non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). The incumbent is eligible for overtime pay or compensatory time according to University policy. Further, the employee must submit timesheets that accurately reflect all hours worked.
Benefits
This is a Classified Staff (CLS) position. NAU offers an excellent benefit package including generous health, dental and vision insurance; participation in the Arizona State Retirement System; paid vacation and 10 holidays per year; and tuition reduction for employees and qualified dependents. More information on benefits at NAU is available on the Human Resources benefits website. Classified Staff employees are in a probationary status for their first six months at NAU. NAU is a tobacco and smoke-free campus. Employees offered a position will be eligible for state health plans (including NAU’s BCBS Plan). New employees are eligible for benefits on the first day of the pay period following their enrollment, after their employment date. Employees will have 31 days from their start date to enroll in benefits. Additionally, new employees will begin participating in the Arizona State Retirement System, and the long-term disability coverage that accompanies it, on the first of the pay period following 6 months after the new employee’s start date.
