Educational and Experience Requirement:
Associates degree, 60 college hours. No experience required. Library experience would be helpful. Additional experience may be considered in lieu of education.
Nature & Purpose of Position:
Provides responsible technical, supervisory, and public services skills necessary in the operation of a specific work unit in the University Library. Performs specialized duties requiring advanced operational skills and technical knowledge of library practices and procedures.
Primary Responsibilities:
Bills Library patrons for lost, damaged, and overdue materials in both the Sirsi system and the University’s accounting system. Investigates and explains bills to patrons upon request. Issues Circulation refunds through Banner or the Controller’s Office. Compiles monthly billing statistics. Maintains accurate billing records. Audits the accuracy of billing records and corrects when necessary. Initiates searches for books that are missing, 30 days overdue, and long overdue. Reviews university separation notices in order to update user privileges and communicate with separating employees about charges and bills as needed. Communicates consistently via face-to-face, email and Microsoft Teams channels to keep Access Services Manager and colleagues apprised of issues, project status, student worker performance, and so forth. Provides Circulation and Reserves services at the Service Desk. Answers patron or faculty inquiries of a complex nature by telephone, email, or in person, including researching patron accounts and interpreting policy to patrons. Handles patron cash and credit payments as needed. Supervises student assistants and prioritizes, delegates, and monitors work. Assists in the training of student assistants. Recommends revisions to policy and procedures as needed. Responsible for building security. Consistently enforces all Library and University policies for employees and patrons. Helps interview and hire student assistants as needed. Assists in staff hiring committees and training new staff upon request. Projects as identified or assigned. Performs other duties as needed to assure that functions and services are maintained
Other Specifications:
The usual shift will be Monday-Friday, 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. In addition, the Billing Supervisor is on a rotation schedule with other Access Services staff and is required to work assigned Saturdays. Some evenings and nights may be required during staffing emergencies.
Requires comfort with general office use of PC computers, Windows applications, and equipment such as copier, scanner, cash register, and credit card machine. Training in Library and University specific software will be provided.
