The agent will proactively conduct needs assessments and program evaluations to provide future direction for the program. Programmatic support of current research based nutrition/healthy lifestyles curriculum for all ages, along with volunteer management, will be expected of the agent to meet program goals. This position works with school aged youth. This is a reposting of PG190478CE. Previous applicants do not need to reapply. Bladen County is located in Southeastern North Carolina and has a population of approximately 34,000. Bladen County is the 4th largest county in the state in area and is located approximately 100 miles from Raleigh and 45 miles from Wilmington and the Atlantic Ocean. Life in Bladen provides a rich neighborly atmosphere with a leisurely lifestyle but at the same time provides easy access to more urban population centers. The agricultural sector of the Bladen County economy is strong and critical to the overall economy of the area. The county ranks 6th among NC counties in total farm cash receipts and in cash receipts from livestock. The Extension staff is a high performing team with close connections to the people of Bladen County, especially as it relates to the core Extension program areas of agriculture, food, and 4-H youth development. Other Work/Responsibilities |
This is an agent position which covers Bladen County. Travel is required. This position demands an individual with an understanding of family and consumer science programming needs, primarily in foods and nutrition. The successful candidate must plan, develop, implement, and evaluate programs related to food preservation, weight management, healthy eating, food safety and others as identified by advisory members and other stakeholders across the county. Candidate must be able to recruit, train, and incorporate volunteers into programming efforts. Collaboration with other government agencies, public and private non-profits and corporations is expected. This person must enjoy working with individuals as well as groups, be able to work with all audiences, and have the ability to manage multiple tasks with little supervision. The successful candidate is expected to be a team player working with the Extension staff and other organizations and have the ability to work independently. The pursuit of outside resources such as grants and donations will be necessary to support program expansion. Experience preparing and presenting educational resource materials for face to face settings or via other forms of writing, and internet, including social media, is important. The role also serves as a vital liaison for the Bladen Extension Community Association (ECA) which is a volunteer organization that works within communities to strengthen families and communities through leadership development, community action, and education support through research-based information. |

Minimum Experience/Education |
One of the following educational requirements: – A Bachelor’s degree with a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 overall or a 3.0 in family and consumer sciences (formerly known as home economics) or a related field (based on a 4.0 scale). The minimum GPA requirement will be waived for NCCE Program Associates with a Bachelor’s degree. – A Bachelor’s degree and the completion of at least one-half of coursework in a Master’s degree curriculum with a cumulative grade point average 3.0 or higher with at least one degree in family and consumer sciences (formerly known as home economics) or a related field, or – Completion of a Master’s degree with at least one degree in family and consumer sciences (formerly known as home economics) or a related field. Also required: a personal automobile; computer literacy; strong oral and written communication skills; the ability to plan, implement, market, and evaluate educational programs; willingness to work as a team member and support a total Extension program; and the ability to handle multiple demands and set priorities. Personal Attributes: Successful performance of the duties encompassed in the County Extension Agent’s job requires that the individual possess habits of industry, a sense of responsibility, and a genuine appreciation for the worth of the individual. The employee must be adept in both oral and written communication. The County Extension Agent is eligible to become a member of the non-tenure track/special faculty at North Carolina State University. The County Extension Agent has primary responsibility for planning, executing, and evaluating that phase of county Extension programs within assigned areas of program responsibility. The County Extension Agent cooperates with colleagues in the North Carolina Cooperative Extension and county leaders in performing assigned responsibilities. The performance of assigned responsibilities is governed by the philosophy, objectives, policies, and procedures of the North Carolina Cooperative Extension. |
