New York Power Authority Hiring for Attorney I at White Plains, NY Full Time
Job Description
Summary
Provide legal advice to the Authority’s Trustees, senior management and all Authority business units. The attorneys in the Department are, for administrative purposes, divided intofive divisions: judicial actions in federal and state courts, both trial and appellate; procurement, insurance, environmental, and energy efficiency matters; human resources, labor, and employment issues; legislative and regulatory affairs including representing the Authority in administrative proceedings before FERC and the NYS PSC; and real estate and corporate support issues.#LI-CJ1
Responsibilities
- Work closely under the direction of an Assistant General Counsel to learn about NYPA and its business activities
- Develop a general understanding of NYPA’s enabling statute and the Public Authorities Law, as well as the areas of law practiced by the law department
- Attend meetings with Senior level attorneys
- Assist senior level attorneys in research and drafting memoranda on basic issues affecting NYPA
- Develop relationships with clients
- Identify NYPA clients, develop good relationships with them, and learn how to communicate effectively with them.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to conduct legal research
- Ability to draft legal memoranda and briefs/pleadings
- Ability to develop basic understanding of utility industry and NYPA’s business units
- Must be organized and be able to prioritize work
- Must have good verbal communication skills
Education, Experience and Certifications
- Juris Doctor Degree and admittedto practice in New York State.
Physical Requirements
- Approximately 25% travel primarily within NY State
New York Power Authority is committed to providing fair, competitive, and market-informed compensation. The target salary range for this position is: $108,510-$132,630. Salary offered will be determined based the successful candidates’ relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
