Milwaukee Public Schools is seeking part-time elementary, middle, and high school Art teacher candidates for the 2023-24 school year. Positions are available throughout the district and include one school placements and elementary cluster assignments on both the early start and traditional school year calendars.

A Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) art teacher provides an arts program based on the National Core Arts Standards for regular and special education students which is appropriate to their needs and developmental level. The art teacher provides creative opportunities for all students in a variety of mediums. The MPS art teacher works collaboratively with school staff in order to integrate core curricular areas into the arts experience. In addition, they work with various community arts partners in order to provide additional high-quality arts programming for students. The visual arts program is offered in an equitable, multi-cultural setting and teaches all children to think deeply, critically and creatively. The teacher’s work supports the MPS strategic plan.
Interested applicants should complete all sections of the application including the online submission of a current resume. Pending graduates should include a letter from their educational institution documenting that they have met the requirements for graduation and teacher certification.
Interview panels may request candidates to submit additional items including, but not limited to, letters of recommendation, sample lesson plans, reference lists, and/or writing samples.
At the time of hire, the selected candidate will need to submit three (3) letters of recommendation dated within the last year and signed by the author and a copy of official transcripts verifying his/her conferred undergraduate and graduate degree, if applicable.
Eligible applicants must hold a current Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction Art (1550) teacher license or have the ability to obtain this license by the start of the 2023-2024 school year. Pending graduates should include a letter from their educational institution documenting that they have met the requirements for graduation and teacher certification.
As of November 1, 2021, all MPS employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. The health and safety of our staff and students is our number one priority.
All offers of employment are contingent on the candidate showing proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (currently one dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine or two doses of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine) to pass the pre-employment requirements. Individuals with medical issues or sincerely held religious beliefs that prevent them from getting the vaccine may request an accommodation from the vaccine requirement.
The teacher salary range starts at $46,144.00 and increases according to the set salary schedule based on education beyond the required bachelor’s degree and previous years of full-licensed K-12 teaching experience.
