Job Summary/Basic Function:
The Biology Department is accepting applications for a Temporary, part-time instructor responsible for teaching biology courses, including both lecture and laboratory, at the introductory level. Relevant courses include, but are not limited to, BIOL 100 (General Biology) and BIOL 101 (Foundations of Biology).

Job Description:
TEACHING AND PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:The Millersville University Biology Department is commitment to creating inclusive, accessible, and equitable learning environments and emphasizes active and learner-focused approaches to instruction.
The ability to teach fundamental biological concepts in lecture and laboratory settings to both majors (BIOL 101, Foundations of Biology) and non-majors (BIOL 100, General Biology) is essential.BIOL 100 is an introduction to biology with emphasis on cell structure, metabolism, genetics, behavior, ecology, adaptations, organ systems and evolution. BIOL 101 provides the foundation of modern biological knowledge essential for all higher-level courses at Millersville University. Topics include cell structure and function, cellular reproduction, energy acquisition, biochemical pathways, mechanisms of inheritance, natural selection, speciation and evolution.BIOL 100 lectures consist of two 1-hour sessions, twice a week and BIOL 100 labs consist of one 3-hour session once a week. BIOL 101 lectures consist of three 1-hour sessions, three times a week and BIOL 101 labs consist of one 1-hr recitation plus one 3-hour lab held on separate days. Multiple sections of lecture and laboratory may be available based on qualifications and availability.
Part-time faculty members shall maintain a prorated number of office hours each week, at a minimum of twenty-five (25) minutes for each workload hour taught, at such days, times and locations as will accommodate the needs of the students.
This position requires in-person instruction on Millersville University’s campus. This position is contingent upon sufficient enrollments in assigned classes.

In addition to teaching, there is an expectation for scholarship and service commensurate with the assignment.
