Brief Description of Position: La Cañada Unified School District is seeking a science teacher to teach a part-time assignment (80%, or 0.8 FTE) at La Cañada High School, starting second semester of the 2022-23 school year. The course load contains four sections of AP Biology (80% FTE) during Periods 3-6. A probationary contract will be offered, leading to tenure.
Qualifications:
1. Credential: Valid California single subject teaching credential in biology, including a certification to teach English Language Learner students.
2. Education: Bachelor’s Degree or higher
Work Year: This is a part-time position (80%, or 0.8 FTE); August through early June (10 months); 188 contracted workdays. The chosen candidate will be asked to start immediately in the position, once clearance from a background check and tuberculosis assessment is confirmed. Spring break is the week of April 3-7, 2023. The final day for students is Friday, June 2, and the final day for teachers is Monday, June 5, 2023.
Salary: Placement on the certificated salary schedule is dependent on education and years of employment in a public school district. No cap on years for public school experience. The starting monthly salary range for a fully credentialed teacher at 80% is $4,535.32 to $8,714.63. For a full academic year, the annual salary range for an 80% teacher would be $50,105 to $95,861. Paychecks are issued over 11 months on the last workday of the month (no paycheck in July). The first paycheck of a mid-year new hire may experience an adjustment, so that subsequent paychecks may be paid at the full monthly rate.
Benefits: This position is eligible to participate in the District’s medical benefit plans. Currently the District’s maximum contribution to an employee’s benefits package is $18,034 per year. Coverage under the current packages would start on the first day of the month following the month the new hire begins work. Coverage would be active through September 30, 2023. Premiums for a part-time employee are prorated based on the employee’s full-time equivalent (FTE) percentage. An additional late start payment may be assessed to bring the new hire into compliance with the employees’ premium payment schedule.
