The Division of Urologic Oncology within the Brady Urological Institute is seeking a Research Specialist to assist primarily with our translational and clinical research efforts in kidney cancers, urothelial cancers, and testicular cancers. The ideal candidate should be organized, efficient, willing to learn, work well on a team, and proficient in both laboratory techniques and database management/inventorying. Under minimal supervision, the Research Specialist will be expected to perform clinical and/or research laboratory experiments by following established procedures and protocols. The Research Specialist will participate in the design of experiments and analysis of data; work independently and manage research tasks; assist the principal investigator in the development and coordination of projects, experimentation, data collection/maintenance, and organization of the laboratory; curate and prepare samples for nucleic acid extraction and sequencing (including coring/macrodissection and DNA/RNA isolation); develop assays, prepare immunohistochemical stains, review protocols and complete measurements as assigned; collect patient tissue specimens and store them within our biorepository; assist with updating our cancer databases with clinical and pathological data prospectively; assist with regulatory requirements including IRB submissions and DTA/MTA agreements; and use analytical and decision-making skills to implement assigned projects and troubleshoot problems.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing.
