Responsible for accomplishing the mission of the Campus Safety Department, to provide for both the security and safety of the Rhodes community. This position is part-time, Thursdays and Fridays from 6AM – 2PM.
Job Requirements:
High School Diploma or GED
This position requires a valid driver’s license, a good driving record, and must be insurable by the College’s insurance carrier.
Unarmed Officer Licensed with the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance and the Dallas Law unarmed license modifiers are required or must be obtained within 90 days of hire is required.
One-year minimum in security or comparable organizational experience (e.g. military, police and/or safety) preferred.
One year of experience in security or comparable field (e.g. military, police and/or safety).
Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle. Excellent customer service utilizing strong analytical skills, excellent communication, interpersonal and administrative skills.
Job Responsibilities:
Must work under pressure with attention to detail, work with changing priorities, manage numerous programs and events simultaneously and independently, exercise initiative and use discretion.
Conduct both walking and mobile patrols of interior and exterior locations/areas and remain highly visible.
Monitor and control parking according to Parking Program specifications; check parking lots and vicinity for abnormal activity and write parking citations.
Staff Campus Access gates, monitoring all campus entry (vehicular and pedestrian) and egress, to include traffic direction, visitor assistance and entry validation.
Maintain a constant alertness for signs or indications of unusual or abnormal conditions.
Complete required paperwork in compliance with the Campus Safety Operations Manual and College Handbook, including but not limited to: operations notes, crime-incident-accident reports, drug and liquor law violations, more. Maintain department records, reports, and files as required and confidentiality thereof.
Assist with care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies.
Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings and workshops as assigned. Complete annually the Campus Security Authority (CSA) training and biannual state license renewals.
Provide emergency/crisis/routine response as situations arise, in accordance with College and departmental policy, Federal, State and local laws.
Regular and punctual attendance is an essential function to perform the duties of this position.
This position is classified as essential personnel, which may require attendance during inclement weather or other times at which the campus is closed.
Other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands:
Ability to stand up to four hours per shift; Ability to walk one mile at a moderate pace;
Ability to ascend and descend up to three flights of thirteen (13) stairs while carrying a twenty (20) pound bag at above normal pace in order to respond quickly in emergency situations;
Ability to lift to shoulder height forty (40) pounds;
Ability to stay awake no less than eight (8). Visual acuity of 20/20, with or without corrective lenses, to include near visual acuity (14 inches) and far visual acuity (20 feet);
Ability to hear sufficiently to perform the essential functions of the job. Patrol Vehicle, computer, radio, telephone, alarm equipment, etc.
Ability to read and write the English language sufficiently to perform the essential functions of the job.
