Job Description

We are seeking an Editorial Assistant to support two editors on the Routledge Communication Studies books list.

You will be responsible for assisting with the acquisition and management of projects including textbooks and other books for scholarly and professional audiences. Your core tasks will include guiding authors through the preparation and submission of manuscripts, ensuring delivery of manuscripts to schedule; preparing manuscripts, online resources, and other ancillaries for handover to the production department; soliciting and chasing peer reviews of book proposals; drafting and processing contracts; liaising with and supporting other departments located throughout the world; and maintaining detailed records for projects in all stages.

Qualifications

What we’re looking for:

• Demonstrable ability to independently and effectively prioritize workload and competing priorities
• Effective communication and organizational skills
• High level of attention to detail
• Good at troubleshooting, solution-finding, and decision-making
• An interest in learning about the editorial and commercial aspects of the scholarly publishing business
• Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite of programs
• Ability to quickly learn new software and systems
• Previous publishing experience would be an advantage but is not essential
