Responsibilities
This position is responsible for daily supervision and directing the day-to-day operations of the Recycling Center and refuse operations from FSU Buildings and Campus.
Responsible for providing daily assignments and instructions to Recycling Center employees and refuse services across campus. Assists in developing and recommending new and improved programs, procedures, and methods to improve the efficiency, effectiveness, and management of the Recycling Center. Makes assignments, inspects work, and tours the campus to ensure waste management duties are being performed up to departmental standards. Prepares work schedules and ensures appropriate staff are allocation to ensure completion of work in a timely fashion. Serves as a primary point of contact for customers requesting services. Greets customers and assists with loading and unloading recyclable items. Ensures recycling containers are placed where needed on campus. Operates medium weight vehicles such as open bed, flatbed, and other chassis cab type trucks complying with truck driving rules as well as university policies and procedures.
Initiates and effectively makes recommendations for recruiting, hiring, completes performance evaluations, terminations, disciplinary and commendatory actions for assigned personnel. Ensures assigned staff receive appropriate training and promotes safety awareness. Demonstrates proper use of equipment and vehicles used in the Recycling Center. Maintains recycling collections records and related documents. Performs Recycling Center job activities such as picking up recyclable materials from FSU buildings, operating forklifts, bailing cardboard, sorting recyclable materials, shredding paper, and sweeping/cleaning the recycling processing center.
Responsible for security, safety and maintenance of all equipment and supplies for the Recycle Center and reporting malfunctions to supervisor. Prepares requests for materials and supplies and initiates purchasing workorders. Will support areas within Waste Management and other assigned special projects as needed.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalency and two years o experience related to the duties of this position; or a combination of post high school education and experience equal to two years in the same. (Note: Relevant training may substitute for experience.)
Ability to perform manual labor, operate and mechanically service designated machinery, tools, and equipment.
Ability to train and supervise employees.
Knowledge of and ability to identify safety hazards and necessary safety precautions to establish a safe work environment.
Skill in safely operating various types of motorized vehicles including but not limited to dump trucks, tractors, forklifts, pallet trucks, front-end loaders, and golf-carts.
Ability to meet the physical demands of this position including moving/lifting up to 50lbs or more, bending, kneeling, lifting, walking, and standing for extended periods.
A valid Florida or Georgia driver’s license or the ability to obtain upon hire.
