Essential Functions:
Provides support for, and counsel to, students from underrepresented communities/marginalized backgrounds, as well as to identity-based affinity student groups, to promote a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment within the law school.
In conjunction with the Office of Law Student Affairs, plans, designs, markets, executes, and assesses student-focused programs, events, and cultural celebrations.
Develops, in close consultation with the Assistant Dean for Law Admissions, targeted outreach plans to HBCU/HSI institutions as well as direct outreach to members of historically underrepresented populations. Outreach will include in person, virtual and electronic means of communication. Regional travel in the fall and winter months is anticipated to attend law school fairs and participate in private visits to campuses.
Develops, in close consultation with Law School leadership, a “pipeline program” designed to broaden the pool of applicants from groups historically underrepresented in the law school and legal profession.
Partners with the Office of Law Student Affairs and Office of Law Admissions to create and direct a pre-enrollment immersion program and builds partnerships with undergraduate institutions to recruit interested applicants for participation in this program
Collaborates and partners with University-wide offices/committees (UCICC, OIE, etc.) as well as with the law school DEI committee, to enhance support of law students and bring awareness to available resources.
Partners with the Assistant Director of Admissions to oversee and manage the Law Ambassador student volunteer program which facilitates current student engagement with prospective applicants.
Collaborates with Law Communications to feature stories of diverse students, alumni, faculty, and staff.
Creates a pre-law advisor newsletter three times each year, and assists in updating content for social media platforms and the law school website.
Facilitates alumni engagement with current and admitted students, and student organizations.
Review admissions files as part of the overall admissions process.
Other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree required. Juris Doctor or Master’s degree is preferred.
Demonstrated interest in fostering inclusion initiatives and will be knowledgeable of issues related to equity, inclusion, diversity, and belonging.
1-3 years of experience (or the equivalent in experience and education) in college admissions, law school admissions, student affairs, law firm recruitment, or inclusion initiatives preferred.
Excellent written, verbal, organizational and interpersonal skills.
Travel, evening, and weekend hours are required.
