Location
Our West Campus is located at 2400 Gillionville Road, Albany, GA 31707. Our East Campus is located at 504 College Drive, Albany, GA 31705. The Human Resources office for both campuses is located on the West Campus in Building K, Suite 111.
Job Summary
The Department of Social Sciences at Albany State University is seeking applicants to fill two tenure-track Assistant Professor of Mass Communications positions. These positions will start in August 2023. Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and advisement, service to the university, and scholarship. Responsibilities include teaching both introductory and advanced level courses, in face-to-face and online environments. Tenure-track faculty will teach 30 credit hours on an annual ten-month contract with benefits, and will conduct academic research, perform other duties such as committee work and student mentoring. Faculty with research and/or scholarship agendas may apply for six credit hours of course release across the school year.
Responsibilities
Provide course instruction that aligns with Albany State¿s mission and strategic goals.
Design and deliver instruction through the development of instructional plans to meet course outcomes, the development of activities that support lesson objectives, and for online courses, deliver the instruction as approved within each course shell.
Use technology in and beyond the classroom to support students¿ learning and success.
Engage in student mentoring; guiding students through academic program, as well as providing instrumental assistance with post graduate endeavors.
Facilitate growth within the academic unit
Actively participate in student and program recruitment
Actively participate in service to the department, academic program, college and university.
Engage in scholarship and research, as customary for the program.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
A master¿s degree is required.
The ideal candidate is someone who can teach across a broad spectrum of mass communication areas, including media research and theories, media writings, public relations, emerging media, Web and graphics, etc.
Preferred Qualifications
A Ph.D. is desired, but not required.
A concentration in Media Arts and expertise in digital/electronic media is especially desired.
The ideal candidate is also able to teach in the area of audio/video/film production, radio and television programing and management, etc.
A minimum of two years teaching experience is preferred, but consideration will be given to exceptional candidates with fewer years experience.
Proposed Salary
Salary range is from $45,000 to $55,000
