Assistant Director Residence Life – Campus Housing

Position Description:
Campus Housing is currently seeking an
Assistant Director of Residence Life for Leadership. The Assistant Director of Residence Life oversees the daily operations and management
of a housing area, with the supervision of at least 1 full-time staff member, in addition to collateral duties associated with Student
Leadership programs that include an active Residence Hall Association (RHA) and National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH), and an advocacy
role for students as it relates to their student experience while at UIC. The position has budgetary oversight, works directly with
Orientation & Student Engagement programs, oversees Weeks of Welcome programming, supports large-scale events sponsored by campus
housing and its’ student organizations, and advocates for student development through the student leadership experience. This position
includes leadership, management, and oversight for the development and implementation of a comprehensive curricular residence life program
that focuses on academic retention. This position works with student conduct; crisis response; diversity and inclusion; leadership,
advising; assessment; staff development, selection, recruitment, training and evaluation, and administration. This position involves making
timely, well-informed decisions, using professional judgment in handling complex situations; demonstrating critical, creative, and
reflective thinking skills, the ability to work calmly and accurately to de-escalate situations and resolve issues through constructive and
creative approaches, and has budgetary oversight. This can be a live-on position and is also a position that serves in an on-call capacity
that provides direct crisis intervention, counseling, and conflict resolution for residents, consultation & coaching for supervisees
engaged in crisis response.
Key Responsibilities/Duties:
Residence Life Programs
· Responsible for daily operation and management of area residential communities with oversight of departmental residential
education initiatives.
o Assess and report on progress toward meeting student learning outcomes impacting student success and
retention.
o Collaborate and facilitate faculty involvement and outreach.
o Coordinate and advise academic intervention for
residents to provide them with support, resources, and referrals to succeed academically.
· Coordinate and manage student
conduct processes and crisis response including timely follow-up on community concerns with students, parents, and University
stakeholders.
· Assist with student staff training development, selection process, and student engagement initiatives.
· Establish personal and professional relationships with Campus Housing residents to promote an environment in which individual
students’ rights and the Standards of Residence are continually upheld, including a commitment to social justice and inclusion.
· Manage and monitor area programming budget.
· Partner and collaborate with other university departments to
recommend policies, processes, and support initiatives to enhance the residential living experience.
Strategic Planning and
Goal Setting
· Work with senior leadership on policy level and direction regarding Residence Life Programs best
practices, concepts, and standards to incorporate into university long-range planning.
· Search for new opportunities and
marketing tools to expand and advertise Campus Housing business and services.
Emergency Response and On-Call Duty
·
Serve in second-level on-call rotation for all residential students to manage all emergencies and crises. Communicate with hospitals on
discharge terms and treatment of resident patients. Follow up on student compliance with recommended treatment plan to support student
success
Campus Housing Promotion and Marketing
· Promote Campus Housing to prospective students at admissions,
information fairs, and open house and orientation events.
· Create, communicate, and manage residence hall events, scholarship
programs, and other programs to strengthen current residents’ engagement with Housing. Create advertising, publicize, and manage
logistics for programs.
Facilities and Operations & Administration
· Monitor facilities to ensure their operational
condition. Evaluate and communicate resident satisfaction with housing facilities to ensure high-level service.
Manage and
evaluate security protocol and procedures. Staff Management
· Directly supervise and develop full-time professional
Area Coordinators, Resident Directors, and support staff; indirectly supervise additional Residence Life staff and students.

Plan, assign, and review work of staff to ensure that group objectives are met.
· Perform other related duties and participate
in special projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
· Master’s degree required in student
development, higher education, management, public administration, or another related educational field strongly preferred.
· Minimum of 5 years supervisory and budgetary experience in Residence Life and Higher Education. Working knowledge of university
policy and procedures. Working knowledge of databases and general computer skills.
· Strong leadership, communication, and
interpersonal skills to maintain effective working relations with departments, employees, managers of the organization, and external
constituencies (such as police, hospitals, courts, contractors, and sales).
