Advertised Job Summary:
The Research Laboratory Manager will work with the faculty principal investigator and grant staff to assist with NIH-funded research on aging in women who carry the fragile X premutation and fragile X syndrome. This position involves general project oversight, assisting in managing data, preparing reports for families, assistance at outreach events, scheduling, management and oversight with the general flow of assessments, as well as conducting participant assessments. The position may involve occasional travel within the Southeast/Midwest United States for participant assessments or conference attendance. This position is ideal for research SLPs, someone planning to apply to PhD programs in Communication Sciences, Psychology, Human Development and Family Sciences, or related fields, or someone who desires a longer-term position in research with a higher level of intellectual stimulation and challenge.
Required Education and Experience:
Master’s degree in Psychology, Speech-Language Pathology, Social Work, Human Development and Family Sciences, or a related field, or a Bachelor’s degree followed by at least 2 – 3 years of experience in research and/or project management. Strong organization and communication skills, and attention to detail are necessary for success in this position. Prior experience working in a research lab or with project management.
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior experience working with families who have children with neurodevelopmental disorders; experience working with individuals with neurodegenerative disease; experience working with older adults; prior experience with human subjects research; prior clinical experience.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
This individual must be able to communicate effectively with faculty, postdocs, other research staff, and graduate and undergraduate students, as well as communicate effectively and sensitively with families who participate in research. This individual must also be interested and effective in working with adult clinical populations.
Job Duty:
Coordinates day-to-day project activities, including coordinating assessment responsibilities among the project staff specifically engaged in the carrying out of research protocol. Oversees the general flow and coordination of assessments, including coordination or pre- and post-assessment activities among staff. Tracks scheduling of participants in longitudinal study, enrollment numbers and projections, and return of survey and informant data. Responsibilities may also include onboarding and coordinating scheduling of undergraduate research assistants.
