Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor of English and Creative Writing. Position and Qualifications
Hollins University is proud to have a highly diverse student body, and we are seeking to recruit and retain outstanding faculty who exhibit a clear commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. We invite applications from writers with book publication in fiction (or under contract) and some publication or experience in poetry, nonfiction, or hybrid forms to teach multi-genre creative writing and literature at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
For full consideration, candidates must have a M.F.A. or Ph.D. in hand at time of appointment, evidence of ongoing creative work and accomplishment, and a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
The successful candidate will bring a multicultural perspective to the teaching of engaged undergraduate and graduate students at all levels. Teaching load is six courses per year. Other duties include advising students, participating in department and university service, supporting the department’s reading series as a committed literary citizen, ongoing creative work, and active participation in campus-wide faculty governance.
Preferred candidates will have experience teaching both creative and critical writing and a strong commitment to teaching excellence and innovation at a liberal arts institution.
With 14 faculty members, the Department of English and Creative Writing, which houses the Jackson Center for Creative Writing, is a collaborative department with interconnected literature and creative writing programs. Degrees offered include a B.A. in English and Creative Writing and an M.F.A. in Creative Writing. The department also manages the annual publication of the Children’s Literature Association Children’s Literature and three student-produced publications: Cargoes (literary magazine), Gravel (focus on multicultural writing), and The Cyborg Griffin (speculative fiction).
