Position Function:
The Executive Director, Veterans and Military Affairs is responsible for the overall
development and enhancement of university services for United States service members, veterans, disabled veterans, dependents, survivors,
and ROTC programs.
Salary Grade : 17

Department Profile:
In support of the Division of Student Affairs, the Center for America’s Veterans engages military connected students
through educational benefits, transitional support and activities to promote learning, well-being and success.
Essential
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Directs, develops, and coordinates strategies and programs to assist with the education and
development of United States service members, veterans, disabled veterans, dependents, and survivors.
2. Oversees the development and
implementation of a comprehensive education and development center; the methods to be followed, the resources to be allocated, and the
mechanism for its regular evaluation and reporting.
3. Oversight of ROTC programs in coordination with U.S. Army and Airforce.
4.
Responsible for recruiting, retaining, and preparing veterans for successful transition into the civilian workforce.
5. Works closely
with the United States Department of Veterans Affairs, State Veterans Affairs, local, state, and national American Legion and VFW
Organizations, and other university departments regarding the availability of resources and opportunities to assist veterans in education
and civilian career advancement.
6. Fosters and supports a “user-friendly” environment for veterans and their families, and assists in
the location of financial, cultural, and social support services.
7. Responsible for implementation and assessment of programs that
increase veteran enrollment at MSU.
8. Designs a program to evaluate and remediate the instructional needs of veterans in the areas of
mathematics, english, reading, computer sciences, and student skills to enhance academic success.
9. Establishes and implements
short-and long-range organizational goals, objectives, strategic plans, policies, and operating procedures; monitors and evaluates
programmatic and operational effectiveness; and effects changes required for improvement.
10. Responsible for marketing and
advertisement of the project to potential participants and employers to facilitate transition into civilian job opportunities.
11.
Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibility: Full supervisory responsibility for other
employees is a major component of job; include training, evaluating and making or recommending employment decisions.

Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum Education:
Bachelor’s degree
with a focus in Business Management or related discipline.
Minimum Experience:
6 years with previous experience directly related
to duties outlined in job description.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree in Business, Management or related field.
2. Service in a branch of the military with status of U. S. Veteran.
3. Any equivalent combination of related experience and/or
education approved by the Department of Human Resources Management.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Master’s
degree in business management or related field.
2. Three years of supervisory work experience supervising staff of five or more
people.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
1. Strong interest in veteran development. Understanding and
promoting concepts of customer service.
2. Knowledge and experience with educational remediation.
3. Outstanding interpersonal
skills including building relationships with veterans and families as well as local and global communities.
4. Ability to make
decisions and prioritize projects for efficient and effective time management.
5. Ability to work in close knit office as part of a
team.
6. Ability to interact with alumni and alumni relations.
7. Experience working with computer and web-based applications.
Knowledge of grant writing processes and procedures.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
1. No unusual
physical requirements.
2. No heavy lifting, and nearly all work is performed in a comfortable indoor facility.
3. Externally
imposed deadlines; set and revised beyond one’s control; interruptions influence priorities; difficult to anticipate nature or volume of
work with certainty beyond a few days.
4. Meeting of deadlines and coordination of unrelated activities are key to position; may
involve conflict resolution or interactions involving emotional issues or stress on a regular basis.
5. Job frequently requires
sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, and handling objects with hands.
6. Occasional standing, walking,
stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling, and lifting to 10 pounds.
7. Visions requirements: Ability to see information in print and /or
electronically.
