Educational and Experience Requirement:
High School graduate or G.E.D equivalent. Associates degree in a related field preferred. Completion of a Certified Medical Association (CMA) program from a school accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Program (CAAHEP) or by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES). Currently licensed as a Certified Medical Assistant by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA). Two years of experience in a clinic or hospital setting, or related experience. Additional education may be considered in lieu of experience.
Nature & Purpose of Position:
Performs Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) duties according to standard procedures prescribed by the University Health Clinic. Cares and treats patients according to accepted nursing and medical standards.
Primary Responsibilities:
Performs patient interview to determine patients’ primary complaints. Maintains patient and staff confidentiality in accordance with applicable Personal Health Information (PHI) laws and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) regulations. Provides assistance and cares for sick and injured patients by administering routine injections, tests, and procedures according to the treating practitioner’s orders. Prepares and assists the treating practitioner with physical examinations and minor procedures when necessary. Maintains supplies, equipment and drugs as necessary. Maintains exam rooms between patient screenings. Records on students’ electronic health record all pertinent information concerning care and medication. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Other Specifications:
Must be extremely accurate in following written and oral instructions regarding patient care. Must be able to communicate effectively with outside medical facilities, students, other university departments, and visitors. Must be familiar with and able to maintain infection control standards as set out in Universal Precautions protocols. Alertness and careful attention is required to prevent injury to self or others. Must have a positive attitude toward change, professional growth, and team work. Must have proficient computer skills. All documentation is recorded in electronic health record. Must work efficiently due to busy schedules. Must work within the scope of their certification and continue education as required. Work schedules may vary as required by the University Clinic.
