Job Purpose:
Reporting to the Electronic Security Manager and performing at the journeyman level, the Locksmith installs and maintains locking and electronic security systems; coordinates campus-wide security related to door locks and keys, access control systems and handicap access; and is responsible for three campus master clocks, as well as department time clocks.
Job Summary:
Plans, orders, installs and repairs lock and key systems on doors. Schedules and inspects the work of outside contractors, as needed. Maintains and uses confidential key/core data and assigned keys tracker to create, change and install locking equipment, and lock cores and to cut, issue, and assign keys. Inventories and orders locks and keys and related equipment and supplies; prepares specifications and obtains quotes as needed. Provides training to co-workers and equipment users.Assists with troubleshooting, installation, maintenance and repair of electronic locking or electronic security equipment, access control systems, and handicap access devices.Assists Fleet Manager in performing vehicle service & maintenance activities.Maintains three master clocks and multiple time clocks.
Required Qualifications:
High school diploma, two years of experience as a locksmith, and valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications:
Vocational training through formal education or a formal apprenticeship program and four years of experience as a locksmith.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Summary:
Thorough knowledge of the techniques of locksmith work. Knowledge of and ability to operate hand and power tools associated with the locksmith trade. Sufficient knowledge of electronic locking systems to assist with troubleshooting and repairs. Ability to read and follow written instructions and directions. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, co-workers and supervisors.
