Xavier University of Louisiana Looking for Assistant Director for McNair Scholars Program/Pre-Graduate Advisor Full Time
Job Summary
The Assistant Director for Xavier McNair Scholars Program/Pre-Graduate Advisor prepares students
seeking to enroll in graduate and professional school programs, including campus visits, GRE prep, and identifying opportunities to work
with faculty mentors, conduct research, and showcase findings via conferences and symposiums.
Primary Duties and
Responsibilities
- Coordinate the application and interview process for Xavier University’s McNair Scholars
Program and the Xavier’s GradStar Program, including managing communication, marketing, and promotion for each program - Advise
and provide academic counseling to participants, including maintaining notes via various CURGO and university online platforms (e.g.,
Handshake, EAB’s Student Success Collaborative, etc.) - Track the academic performance of current participants and the
educational/career progress and attainment of former participants - Coordinate the communication process and market information on
research, funding opportunities, and graduate programs - Assist the Associate Director for CURGO/Project Director for McNair in the
preparation of the annual performance reports utilizing annual assessment data in tandem with Xavier’s Office of Institutional
Research - Guide participants through all stages of the graduate school selection and application process (e.g., cover letters,
resumes/CVs, personal statements, research statements, and graduate school mock interviews) - Collaborate with other offices and
faculty and partner liaisons to facilitate student placement in research and graduate programs. - Assist students in maintaining
updated profiles via online Career Services management platform - Assist with planning and implementation of the Research Scholars
Showcase, Graduate Fairs, Graduate School Visits, and Festival of Scholars Showcase - Perform other duties as assigned
- Knowledge, Education, Experience, and Proficiencies
Earned Master’s Degree in Education, Counseling,
Guidance, Social Work, Student Development, or related field - Minimum of three years with economically disadvantaged students in a
higher educational setting including, but not limited to, academic advising, management, counseling, and report preparationTraining in Financial Aid, Academic Advising, Graduate Application Process, Admissions, Financial Aid, Working with Economically
Disadvantaged Students, TRIO Programs
Preferred Qualifications
Physical Requirements
Work is performed in an office setting with minimal
exposure to health or safety hazards. This is sedentary work which requires the following physical activities: sitting, walking, bending,
stooping, finger dexterity, repetitive motions, talking, hearing and visual acuity.
Special Requirements
Local and regional travel required.
Work Hours
Full-Time, 40 Hours/Week

weekends required
