Essential Functions:
Provides individual and group therapy to undergraduate and law students regarding a wide range of concerns including academic success, life management, brief psychotherapy, crisis management and emotional and psychiatric illness.
Participates as appropriate in the professional activities of the department and division and in service to the University. These may include development and presentation of training, education and health promotion programs for the University community, advising student organizations, supervising student organization activities and budgets, serving on University committees or advisory groups, attending meetings that address student life issues and other activities that support the mission of the SH&C department and the division of Student Affairs (e.g. attending pertinent campus programs or events).
Documents all clinical contacts appropriately in student Counseling Center records; enters appropriate encounter information in scheduling/utilization tracking software system; conducts and documents all clinical activities in accordance with professional standards, including pertinent privacy standards.
Attends/participates in weekly clinical team meetings for case management and professional development. If licensure is in progress, completes required weekly clinical supervision until full licensure is achieved.
Participates in a shared call schedule to maintain 24/7 crisis/triage management for students when the University (UG and Law) is in session.
Other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule:
This is a 10-month position (mid-August to mid-June). While the department requires an additional full-time counselor, University Counseling would consider a flexible work arrangement that allows two successful candidates to work in another benefit eligible work category to fulfill the needs of a full-time position.
Minimum Pay: $52,410 – Pay Commensurate with Experience
Minimum Qualifications:
A master’s degree in counseling or clinical social work with at least two years of pertinent clinical experience, and appropriate licensure (or license eligible) in Virginia.
Knowledge and experience in psychological and developmental needs of the college population including identity development, adjustment issues, mood disorders, suicide risk assessment and prevention, alcohol and other substance abuse problems, diversity and multicultural issues, sexual assault, and eating disorders are essential. Experience and/or clinical interest helping students heal from racial trauma and race-based stress is essential.

Must possess the ability to work effectively as a team member within the organizational structure of the department of Student Health and Counseling Services, the division of Student Affairs and the University community.
