Unit Mission Statement

The Department of Government
serves the university by offering courses and scholarly experiences that contribute to the liberal education of undergraduates. Department
faculty offer courses, seminars, directed research and directed readings that promote understanding of political phenomena ranging from the
behavior of individual citizens to relations among nations. The Department develops students’ abilities to analyze the normative and
empirical dimensions of political issues. The Government Department offers a bachelor’s degree major.

Position
Summary

Under the supervision of the Fiscal Coordinator, and as part of a team that includes chair and associate chair,
this position manages all administrative needs of the Government Department and fiscal and administrative needs of the
International Relations Program to include leadership and faculty support for approximately 32 full-time, affiliated or
visiting faculty members. Primary responsibilities include:

• Providing administrative support to the department fiscal
  coordinator, chair, associate chair, faculty, and office to include ordering supplies, distributing mail, coordinating travel logistics and
  reimbursements, and assisting with department communications.
• Arranging and coordinating program meetings, colloquiums, lectures,
  guests, and special events to include catering, logistics, and agenda.
• Providing records management for student files, department
  records, inventory, salary authorizations, personnel records, faculty peer evaluations, etc.
• Liaising with Registrar, Provost,
  Financial Aid, and other departments to produce necessary forms and reports.
• Serving as the first point of contact to office
  visitors, students, and faculty in person and by telephone and assisting to answer or refer inquiries.
• Maintaining the display boxes
  and address board in the lobby of the building.
• Resolving routine problems quickly and professionally, referring more complex
  matters to appropriate entities.
• Liaising with multiple units on campus such as Accounts Payable, Dean of Arts & Sciences Office,
  Human Resources, Procurement, Student Financial Aid, and the Office of Sponsored Programs to facilitate the processing of transactions and
  procurement of equipment and services.

Required Qualifications

• High School graduate or
  equivalent.
• Several years of directly related on-the-job experience (usually 3+ years)
• Working knowledge of general office
  practices and procedures.
• Proficiency in MS Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Working knowledge of fiscal administration
  and basic accounting principles.
• Ability to learn and work effectively with productivity systems and applications including
  procurement, fiscal reporting, and course scheduling (e.g. Banner, Qlik, buyW&M, Chrome River).
• Excellent organizational skills and
  attention to detail.
• Ability to interpret, apply, and communicate organizational policies and procedures in accordance with state
  and federal guidelines.
• Ability to manage multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred
Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience in a
  higher education environment.
• Familiarity with course scheduling and course registration processes.
• Knowledge of procurement
  & purchasing policies and procedures.
• Familiarity with general hiring practices and procedures.
• Working knowledge of
  photo-editing and desktop publishing software and ability to learn website technology platforms and social media platforms such as Cascade,
  Blackboard, listservs, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
• Experience in creating content for external communication, web pages,
  social and other communication platforms.
• Experience with productivity systems and applications such as Qlik, buyW&M, and Chrome
  River.

Advertised Pay Range

$36K to $39K, commensurate with experience
