Description
Reporting to the Director of Health Professions Advising, this position plays a key role in advising students and
administering many of the crucial day-to-day activities of the health professions team that support students and alumnae as they consider,
prepare for, apply to, and enter careers in medicine and other patient-facing professions. This position will take responsibility for
advising first year students as well as those pursuing non-MD and Dental programs, creating a welcoming and informative environment that
allows students to thrive. In addition, this individual will manage administrative procedures and related programming including information
sessions, presentations, workshops and outreach that form a strong educational and preparatory foundation for all students considering these
postgraduate pathways.
Primary Position Responsibility:
Health Professions Advising
Take primary responsibility for advising and management of first year students as they identify their goals, plan their
academics, and prepare for their Wellesley education. Participate in orientation events and welcome programs as needed
Take
primary responsibility for advising students and alumni interested in non-MD and Dental graduate programs
Meet with health
professions student organization leaders as appropriate to facilitate sharing of group activities
Reinforce program
objectives, learning goals, and other advising protocols and help identify resources that support student and alumnae growth in the context
of the health professions program and the larger goals of the Career Education team
Program and Resource
Development
Work with applicants to prepare for the interview process by coordinating the virtual mock multi-mini
interview (MMI) program and individual mock interviews. For MMI’s, develop questions, schedule dates, set up registration, run training,
ensure timely follow up with candidates, and participate in mock interviews as an interviewer
Support campus-wide efforts to
increase the knowledge and promotion regarding health professions programs and services
Develop and make easily available
written resources for students that offer guidance to support preparation and application
Develop synchronous and
asynchronous video resources for students and applicants
Explore and implement new programs based on best practices in the
field for preparing students for graduate program application and health professions more broadly (i.e. shadowing, gap year experiences,
MCAT preparation, etc.)
Medical Professions Advising Committee (MPAC)
Advise up to four
students in the committee letter process as a member of the committee
Create an interview schedule for up to 80 students and
alumnae who are in the process of applying to health professions schools, taking into account availability for approximately 20 faculty
members for paired interviews
Electronically organize and compile MPAC committee letter documents and submit final letters to
various centralized application services. Manage the process to track all submissions for up to 80 students who apply to one or more
application services or schools
Coordinate meetings throughout the year including MPAC meetings, student meetings, and
programming
Serve as secretary for the MPAC, organizing meetings, taking notes, drafting agendas, and setting up resources
for the committee
Assist with conveying information through newsletters, websites, and via emails
General Program Management
In collaboration with the Director for Health Professions Advising, maintain,
develop, and improve policies, resources, and procedures relevant to the standards set for the Wellesley College Health Professions Advising
program
In coordination with the Director for Health Professions Advising and Medical Professions Advising Committee (MPAC),
as well as with appropriate campus partners, oversee and maintain program activities that facilitate committee letter submissions, including
administrative and scheduling activities, uploads and contacts with outside partners
Provide logistical assistance to
students and alumnae applying to medical programs
Provide logistical assistance to faculty, staff, and alumnae serving on
campus MPAC committees, and maintain clear communication about program policies, procedures and timelines
Provide logistical
assistance for events and activities
Serve as liaison between Health Professions and Fellowships team to process Fellowship
Awards at graduation time
Education Required:
Bachelor’s degree and 1-3 years relevant
experience in higher education, science education, or related field required
Master’s degree preferred
Experience Required
Previous experience or interest in working with students or college-aged
individuals
Broad knowledge of and commitment to health professions and career development
Experience in
working closely with a variety of stakeholders such as students, faculty, alumnae, community partners, and campus
colleagues
Experience creating and implementing programs, events, and webinars
Skills and Abilities
