Essential Functions (Job Duties)
Under the direction of the
Principal Investigator, provide scientific and technical assistance to
complete laboratory based, clinical or population science
research. May assist in writing research protocols and in manuscript preparation. Design and perform research protocols independently or as
directed through training in more difficult or specialized procedures to meet the needs of the research protocol.
Perform laboratory
based scientific techniques or clinical/population science (human subjects) research. Design and perform experiments, recruit participants
for studies by developing surveys and interviewing candidates. Participate in implementing research objectives, ensuring compliance with all
legal, regulatory and protocol guidelines. Assist staff with experiments/research protocols as required. Communicate with principal
investigator and Postdoctoral scholars/fellows on the status of research.
Assist principal investigator with writing methods and
summarizing/organizing data to be used in preparing and presenting presentations for professional, scientific and academic conferences and
submittal to academic and scholarly peer-reviewed journals.
Maintain the laboratory work areas including routine maintenance on
laboratory equipment as required. Order and organize required research supplies and records. Maintain cleanliness and organization of work
station.
Unique Duties
Anti-infective research laboratory (ARL) is looking for a research assistant to
work under biosafety level 2 conditions with bacterial and mammalian cell cultures.
Essential Functions (Job Duties):
1.
Assist in data collection, antimicrobial susceptibility, organism population analysis testing and molecular evaluation including the
performance and development of bacterial molecular studies. Experience in the following areas are of interest:
a. PCR
b.
RT-PCR
c. Sequencing
d. PFGE
e. Cell culture (mammalian/bacterial)
2. Maintain research records including
methods and procedures for Anti-Infective Research Laboratory (ARL)
3. Maintain and assist the research fellows with media
preparation, in vitro model preparation and the maintenance and cleaning/sterilizing of the ARL
4. Assist with the
ordering/accounting and tracking of all laboratory supplies and equipment including the maintenance of equipment for the ARL
5.
Contribute in the laboratory training of research fellows, research assistants, technicians and students assigned to the ARL
6.
Maintain/update electronic records and cataloging of all ARL bacterial isolates, susceptibility and molecular results for ongoing projects
including multi-center projects involving phenotypic screening, susceptibility and molecular testing of clinical bacterial
isolates.
7. Maintain safety records and assist personnel with appropriate University required safety certification
8. Perform
antimicrobial in vitro bacterial time kill assessment and assist in pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic model experiments
9. Perform
routine data evaluation including statistical analysis
10. Contribute to the research team in a manner conductive to the success of
the research projects. This includes assisting in data preparation for scientific presentation and
publication.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a related field of study, preferred. Requires advanced
knowledge predominantly intellectual in character in a field of science or learning acquired by a prolonged course of specialized
intellectual instruction.
Experience performing basic research techniques or interacting with human subjects,
preferred.
Ability to work independently. Ability to analyze, summarize and interpret research findings and data in reports and
spreadsheets and communicate results. Knowledge of scientific integrity principles. Excellent time management and organization skills.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated ability to work with others in a collaborative environment. Microsoft
office software skills.
Preferred Qualifications
1. Bachelor’s of Science or Master’s Degree in
Microbiology
2. Previous experience in microbiology/molecular biology research environment preferred
3. Ability to work
independently and manage multiple tasks
4. Excellent organization skills and attention to detail to oversee study progress
5.
Strong computer skills, data management, Microsoft office, graphing programs, statistical analysis?etc.
