Summary of Duties:
The Health Promotion and Prevention Services Manager (PSM) exercises significant independent judgement in decision-making and functions above first level supervision. The PSM is responsible for contract monitoring and compliance with state and federal contracts and related documentation. The Health Promotion and Prevention Services Manager provides expert guidance, advice, and consultation to the HCA/Division of Behavior Health and Recovery (DBHR) Prevention Section, senior management, and leadership about substance use prevention programming, training, technical assistance, community prevention services development and implementation, and evaluation. This position promotes healthy communities and supports positive youth development through community-based prevention services.
This position is located in Olympia, WA.
Required Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree in a field relevant to area of specialization and three (3) years of experience directly related to the specialty area. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Current certification as a Certified Prevention Professional in Washington State or equivalent standing as recognized by a national accreditation body, or a plan to receive the Certification within 6 months of hire.
Two years experience in substance use disorder prevention/ health education programing and/or community-based prevention strategies.
A valid driver’s license.
Position requires extensive travel statewide.
Ability to work non-standard work hours.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with ethnic and other minority communities.
Grant writing and grant management experience.
Experience in contract management.
Experience in communications, marketing, and public education/outreach efforts.
Three years of successful experience developing and managing prevention programs.
Experience monitoring complex programs for compliance.
Ability to design effective work processes to fulfill program goals and objectives.
Substance Abuse Prevention Skills Training (SAPST).
A minimum of three (3) years’ experience working successfully with community-based prevention efforts.
Experience with negotiating and managing performance-based contracts.
Proficient in MS office products including Word, Outlook, and Excel.

Monthly Salary: $5,139.79 to $6,506.06 | In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position. Successful candidates typically begin up to mid-point of the salary range. For additional information, please review WSU’s Administrative Professional Compensation. This is a temporary position.
Temporary End Date: This is a temporary position expected to end on June 30, 2024. Renewal is dependent on the need for extension and/or if additional funding is secured to extend employment.
This position has been reliably funded for many years through the State of Washington, and we expect funding to continue to support this position.
