Summary of Duties:
This position oversees the College of Veterinary Medicine’s undergraduate advising, coordinating, recruiting and outreach programs. The college has 4 undergraduate majors in 2 departments with the likely addition of a fifth major, public health, in Fall, 2024. The public health degree will be on multiple campuses so oversight of staff that work remotely and developing an understanding of multicampus degrees will be required. The majority of the responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, 1) advising students in the areas of academic planning, including interpreting department, school, college and university requirements, degree requirements, career exploration and other matters; 2) assisting unit heads and the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Education to prepare and implement college and unit wide goals, procedures and controls; 3) assessing departmental advising needs; working closely with academic advisors to ensure that a proactive and quality approach is taken with all student advising needs; 4) analyzing existing goals and programs; recommending solutions and improvements, and implementing changes.
This position will lead, supervise, and provide expert level guidance to paraprofessional, technical, and support staff. In coordination with the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Education, this position will be responsible for developing, implementing, and/or administering programs and initiatives, which reflect the College’s and the University’s academic advising efforts; and provide leadership at workshops.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree and four (4) years of full-time academic advising experience at a college or university or relevant professional experience. A Master’s degree in a related field may substitute for one (1) year of professional work experience. Any combination of relevant education and professional academic advising experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year‐for‐year basis. Positions who will lead or supervise will require one or more years of full-time experience leading or supervising the work of others.
Demonstrated excellent verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office including, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word.
Experience conducting presentations.
Demonstrated commitment to university values for diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Demonstrated public speaking skills/experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in related field.
Experience providing student services in a higher education institution.
Experience in supervision of student services/academic affairs employees
Experience working with and maintaining student records.
Knowledge of WSU curriculum management practices, processes, and policies
