Essential Functions:
Collaborates with Infrastructure staff to oversee performance and security monitoring; prepares systems and processes used in monitoring.
Lead the vulnerability management aspects of the department; including execution of internal scans and monitoring of external scanning services.
Coordinate efforts with system owners on remediation of vulnerabilities identified.
Support and administer awareness and training campaigns leveraging KnowBe4.
Investigates and remediate a variety of security issues within the campus data infrastructure owners.
Proactively advises on security related issues and activities.
Assists in identifying, reporting, and resolving security violations.
Assists in development and testing of Information Systems security solutions, both Cloud and internal.
Works with Systems Analysts, Network Analysts, and DBAs to ensure system platforms are secure. Works with other IS Staff to determine acceptable levels of risk for enterprise computing platforms.
Evaluates collected performance and security data. Reports findings and recommendations to IS management.
Assists with special projects and other duties as assigned to improve efficiency and increase security posture of all department members.
Able to manage security response teams during response to data/systems or other IT infrastructure security events.
Problem solves and makes decisions independently (such as, but not limited to those associated with daily data troubleshooting).
Performs a variety of planning and design functions for the IS Securiy Team.
Solves multiple technical issues relating to security.
Collaborates and develops relationships with other Wake Forest University faculty, staff, and students.
Accountable for maintaining the security and confidentiality of any proprietary or sensitive information or data in any medium regarding the university or its students, faculty, or staff. Accessing or disclosing such information or data must be deemed necessary for the performance of one’s job responsibilities and must be authorized by the employee’s supervisor.
Additional Job Description
Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
B.S. in Computer Science or related field or equivalent experience plus two or more years overall technology security experience in applications and infrastructure security
5+ years experience in cyber security engineering
Strong knowledge of network based and host-based Intrusion Detection/Prevention Systems and intrusion detection and prevention principles.
Experienced with vulnerability management tools and concepts
Experience and knowledge with Data Loss Prevention security controls.
Knowledge of networking and systems protocols.
Knowledge of behavioral security concepts and tools.
Ability to work closely with other departments on diverse projects.
Effective communication skills, both verbal and written; strong interpersonal skills.
Ability to research and problem solve issues independently.
Customer service orientation.
Availability to work after hours and/or weekends and on-call, as required by incidents and projects.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Industry security certifications (i.e. CISSP Certification).
